I like the start off of 45 Revolutions Per Minute, it chugs along at a fair clip. Not sold on the vocalist - he seems to be playing it a bit 'safe' for my tastes. This is a decent enough middle-of-the-road rocker.
Gotta say I'm a big fan of the title of track #2 - Mid-Range Jumper - I used to have a deadly one back in the day. The song's just OK though.
I dunno, I can't be bothered thinking up things to say on a track-by-track basis. In the end this album is just kinda blah for me. There's nothing that jumps up and grabs me and the hooks just don't seem to be there to my ears. There's a lot of people out there who do similar stuff better. For instance, I checked out the 2014 album from the brilliantly named Aussie band "King Gizzard and the Wizard Lizard" that occupies a similar musical orbit, and enjoyed that far more.
I have a suspicion that these guys would be far better to see live than on disc. They just seem to be a bit flat here.
Oh well, I tried.
It IS safe, but in a car ride with the girls, I s'pose safe is good. I like that it has some good musical and vocal hooks that make me move. Honestly, I'm probably a bit 'hometown' biased, and I have heard that they're great live.
I'm not asking anyone for a track-by-track synopsis... In this age of music accessibility, I love threads like this much more than the blogs and podcasts. I just like the sharing of ideas... It makes for some good scavenger-huntin'. I wouldn't have known about albums such as
Atomos,
This World, or
Fanfare if not for this thread, and I really dig them now.
I'll check out the
King Gizzard and the Wizard Lizard if I can find it.
