Alex Jones, Food Babe, AntiVax and other such Woo
Haven't seen anything, wondering if there were any threads relating to the huge influx of so called "Health" crusading woo-makers.
The anti-GMO, Anti-Vaxx, pro-homeopathy, government is murdering us with poisonous airplanes, etc.
It's scary the amount of $$$ these assholes are raking in through fear mongering and dangerous conspiracy theories. It's hard to think anyone on here would be stupid enough to start a debate regarding their legitimacy. . . but maybe a thread for red-flags or general merryment at their expense?

For example - here's a wonderful eye-opening article on the whole Erin Brockovich dibocle. I haven't thought about this in a long time - but she really was quite the woo master!

I completely agree with you, Jenni. (Good to see you peek back in here, as well!) I've had to deal with these arguments too many times in recent years. It gets exhausting, and just goes to show you that people of all stripes can succumb to irrational fear of something.

The chemtrail faction is huge here. They actually shut down a freeway last year.

One of my wife's aunts has posted a chemtrails "meme" every day for about a month. One of them had a picture of a boiling pot of water with the caption "This is water vapor!" juxtaposed with a picture of a contrail with the caption "THIS ISN'T!"

My question is, why aren't we using chemtrails to sterilize the public? Sounds like a great idea. Chemtrail people are proof of its necessity.

Basically, there's this huge underground movement run by a very very business savvy individuals (Mostly nobodies, naturalists and chiropractors) who are using fear mongering to make a shit ton of money. They basically run around claiming that everything is toxic, everyone is trying to kill us - EXCEPT, conviently, for specific products that they provide an affiliate link to. (chaching). It's dangerous, because although it sounds pretty on the surface, these people are backing up serious anti-medicine agendas, like anti-vaccinations, anti-cancer treatments and anti-GMO processes. (That a lot of the time, they don't themselves truly understand). It is both frightening and infuriating. (Like a woman who was refusing to give her infant medicine for a cold, and instead had scotch taped garlic to the kid. Seriously.)
Here's a great woo- crazy anti-peanut butter article. Because "Inflammation."
That's the new way of telling stupid people they're not fat, they're full of "toxins" that are causing "inflammation".

The Case Against Peanut Butter. Why even Organic Peanut Butter is Bad for You

peanutbutter
First, we need to clarify one major thing about peanuts – they are not nuts. They are legumes. They belong to the same family as beans. Compared to nuts, peanust have a very soft outer shell and they grow underground which make them very susceptible to toxins. One of the main toxins is aflotoxin. Aflatoxin is a type of mycotoxin produced by Aspergillus molds. Aflatoxins are very toxic and highly carcinogenic. Aflatoxin is a known carcinogen associated with liver cancer. It’s also associated with growth and development impairment in children. Unfortunately, buying organic peanuts doesn’t save us from this toxic carcinogen; it’s just the nature of peanuts. Thus, eating peanuts, even in small amounts, over a long period of time just doesn’t look like the best idea.
The Case Against Peanut Butter. Why even Organic Peanut Butter is Bad for You
Peanuts contain anti-nutrient lectins
Legumes such as peanuts contain anti-nutrient lectins. These are sticky proteins which are almost impossible to digest. Lectins have been shown to strip away mucous from the small intestine, which is one of the main culprits and cause of many autoimmune diseases like IBS, Crohn’s, colitis, thyroiditis, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome and arthritis. Now, it is true that most foods contain lectins, however certain foods have a high concentration of this substance (such as legumes and grains). Legumes also cause “Leaky Gut” which leads to increased inflammation in your gut.
Peanuts are Strong Allergens
The peanut allergy epidemic is everywhere. Almost every other child is allergic to peanuts. This is because peanuts are also listed as one of the most common food allergies for humans. They contain several proteins not found in most other foods. So when a person’s immune system identifies these certain proteins contained in peanuts as a potential threat it produces antibodies to counter the perceived danger to the body. This is how peanuts cause allergic reactions.
Peanuts Cause Inflammation
Peanuts are loaded with omega-6 fats that disrupt our omega 3:6 ratio. About 30% of the fatty acids in peanut butter are Omega-6 fatty acid linoleic acid. Excessive intake of Omega-6 fatty acids leads to inflammation and an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Omega-6 is only beneficial for our bodies if the ratio of Omega-6 and Omega-3 is 3 to 1.
Also, peanuts are one of the most pesticide-contaminated crops. If you do choose to eat peanut butter, this is the reason to buy organic.
With all of the potential health dangers associated with peanuts, I avoid eating peanut butter (even the organic varieties). There are many healthier options such as almond (here) or other raw nut butters.

Edit: BTW, actually only 1% of the population has a peanut allergy, and 20% of them will outgrow it by adulthood.

I'm not purely anti-chiropractor. I see one monthly. It was a chiropractor (slash nutritionist) that identified and figured out how to treat my folic acid deficiency. HOWEVER - there are chiropractors out there that claim they can cure everything - even down's syndrome. Or that insist that children as young as infants should be adjusted regularly. Or that vaccines and germs are a hoax, and all sickness is really caused by being out of alignment. it's insane.
