I'm not purely anti-chiropractor. I see one monthly. It was a chiropractor (slash nutritionist) that identified and figured out how to treat my folic acid deficiency. HOWEVER - there are chiropractors out there that claim they can cure everything - even down's syndrome. Or that insist that children as young as infants should be adjusted regularly. Or that vaccines and germs are a hoax, and all sickness is really caused by being out of alignment. it's insane.
Huh. I had never really heard that, but it does sound pretty insane. My only experience with chiropractors has been that mine fixes my hip when it's out of place, which generally takes me from so-much-pain-I-can't-get-out-of-bed-in-the-morning to comfortably playing sports again, so I've always struggled with the idea (which I've heard from a few people) that chiropractors are quacks who are stealing my money.

The one I was seeing at the gym was good and bad.
Good - he diagnosed my MTHFR disorder.
Bad - he insisted that I needed to give up gluten and that I could have a gluten intolerance without any symptoms at all. :| But that I should ignore the horrible symptoms I get when I eat Soy, because my body will "get used to it." :gomez:

The new one I've been seeing since he moved has helped (I work out a lot so it's nice to get cracked. BTW they hate when you call it that). But wants to "ideally" see me 2ce a week (at $45 for each 5 minute appt!) And wants me to start bringing my 9 year old niece to see him weekly too start "preventive" care. Ugh.

I herniated two discs like 9 years ago and the chiropractor brought the pain from "i can't get out of bed but laying down hurts almost as bad as standing up" to "mildly tender".

A lot o that nonsense may be based in traditional eastern philosophy in healing the sick. Its not all b.s. but if an chiropractor is uneducated and just spouting shit off for looks, then yea it can be very dangerous.

Mine's generally mildly tender at all times, but once in a while it pops out of place and it gets really bad. If I get an appointment right away, I'm fine. This summer, I waited a while hoping it would improve and then I couldn't get in right away, and in the end I had to take almost a week off work because I couldn't sit at my desk. It was not a fun time in my life.

That's the one argument I have heard about them: they want you to keep going back over and over again. Other than making 3-4 straight appointments when it's really bad, he always just says to come back if I hurt it again, so I haven't run into that issue yet, either.

I had a back thing that finally drove me to a chiropractor.

Anyways, he told me I should come 3 times a week, and the next time I came in we'd set up a discounted, reoccuring rate.

I went in, "oh, we'll do that next time."

I went in "oh we'll do that next time"

I stopped going, went to the doctor. He gave me some darvocet for the pain. Took it for 4 days and the back problem went away.

Yeah, the old Chinese chair massage guy at the mall is better than any adjustment the chiropractor gives me. I just do the chiropractic thing because it feels good, not because I need it.
