"79 million Americans are prediabetic."

Post by contamination »

"In the United States in 2010, over 63% of people are overweight or obese."

You can watch all four parts of the HBO-documentary "The Weight Of The Nation" over here:

Me too.

I watched a pretty good documentary called forks over knives the other night that touched a bit on obesity, but mostly talked about diseases and illness that seem to be mostly from having an animal based diet instead of a plant based diet, it was pretty eye opening

I stopped eating red meat about a year ago. I still eat chicked and fish, but hopefully also give up chicken in the near future. It's not so much about health reasons (though I know it's not good for you) but I just started to have this naive thought in my head everytime I was at the meat counter "Could I kill a cow or a pig", and came to the conclusion that I couldn't, so I stopped eating red meat alltogether.

my wife doesnt eat any meat except for seafood partly because she could catch and clean a fish if she needed to to survive, and though i still eat most meat, i have always felt like some day i would get away from it because i dont like the idea of something having to die for my food, and i know i couldnt kill my own food( dont even think i could a fish if i ate seafood). since we have been together (going on 5 years now) i have almost totally cut out read meat, i dont like most pork so i dont really eat it, and poltry is something that i get tired of pretty easily, so with all the meatless products she has introduced me to, i feel like i could stop eating meat all together some day soon. i do however know its gonna be real hard for me to give up dairy products, but i may do it someday, we are getting ready to reall clean up our diet, and ill see how i handle the dairy stuff going away.

Especially pigs. One year, a friend invited me and a few others to his land specifically to exterminate a group of feral hogs that he had trapped. We took care of all twenty-two with nothing more than a 9mm and a child's beginner rifle.

By many accounts the greater Seattle area has a fairly "fit" population so I don't see a lot of this 63% (from the original post) first-hand, but I was down at the Super Mall in Auburn, WA today (like 40 minutes outside of Seattle) and after about 10 minutes of people watching I was like, oh yeah, 'Murica.

I don't know where this starts, but as a relatively new parent, I think it's fair to say it starts with parenting.
