Updated timetable, fellow SW/SG bros.
Ministry shifted earlier, Antemasque moved back to this day (as originally announced, the last timetable had them placed on the Smashing Pumpkins day).

Great! I thought Antemasque belonged on our day.
Thanks Spenno.

I'm not sure if I should be upset or not that Pumpkins aren't coming over for Westfest

If you saw them in the 90s then probably not.

Nah - the closest I came was back in 2008. Procrastinated too long and the day I went to go buy a ticket, they had apparently only just sold out. On my walk back to work - I did run into and have a wee chat with Billy though - that was kind of coolzeb wrote:If you saw them in the 90s then probably not.

Well, let's just hope this means there's plenty of room for Kim, Ben and Matt on the new Soundgarden album that's surely in the works.

That's also why I'd like a solo Ed album.Birds in Hell wrote: Well, let's just hope this means there's plenty of room for Kim, Ben and Matt on the new Soundgarden album that's surely in the works.
Has there been word on a new SG album yet? Do we know how many sessions there have been?

I wish ours was a one-day festival like Westfet (or Soundwave in previous years), it feels kind of stretched having the bands spread across two days.Rangi Guy wrote:I'm not sure if I should be upset or not that Pumpkins aren't coming over for Westfest
I'd certainly watch the Pumpkins if I were going on the second night but paying an extra hundred or so bucks for the privilege seems hard to justify.

As it is - I'm only really going for Soundgarden and Faith - but they would have been a good bonus.

I figure that if a band is any good, it's not really going to matter if you know their stuff before or not.

I see plenty of bands where I don't know their material. It's a great way to get an introduction to their catalogue.

Re: Total Fucking Godhead / The Soundgarden Thread
You know, I can dig that in theory, but thinking on it, I don't think I can name a single band or artist I've "gotten into" as a result of seeing them live. Not to say I can't enjoy a show without knowing the material first, but it absolutely deepens the experience for me. At this stage in my life the idea of paying anything more than a few dollars to attend a concert by a band I've never heard seems like an irresponsible use of family resources; looking back on my college years it seems kind of absurd the number of high-profile concerts I attended (by people I either didn't like or had no interest in) just because it was something social to do.

Re: Total Fucking Godhead / The Soundgarden Thread
We may be talking past each other for the purposes of this thread as I'd agree very much with all of that too. Seeing a band you're unfamiliar with is definitely an altogether different experience to seeing one that you're intimately familiar with but not necessarily a less enjoyable one. While I didn't end up becoming a hardened fan of either, I had a fantastic time seeing performances by Morning Jacket and Kylesa (neither of whose work I knew very well at the time) at different festivals over the last few years.
I can't imagine spending money on seeing a band I'm completely unfamiliar with either, but if it's a festival and you're already there...

I bought tickets to see Courtney Barnett last year without having heard one note of her recorded output. One of the best things I did all year.

I did it for Kurt Vile a few years back. Generally I prefer to have heard some material first.zeb wrote:I bought tickets to see Courtney Barnett last year without having heard one note of her recorded output. One of the best things I did all year.

I have to take my statement back, actually -- seeing Band of Horses open for PJ a few years ago definitely made me a fan of them. I also fell head over heels for Joanna Newsom after seeing her open for Will Oldham in 2004, but it ended up being a one-album fling.
