Which Album Has the Best Production?
This is probably a pretty close call between a few candidates, but I'm thinking No Code.

I'd put Vs, vitalogy, and riot act ahead of it

Vs., Riot Act, and Yield would be my runners-up. But No Code has a thick muddiness I find very appealing, especially in the drums.stip wrote:I'd put Vs, vitalogy, and riot act ahead of it

I really don't care for the no code sound. Everything is so mutedLoathedVermin72 wrote:Vs., Riot Act, and Yield would be my runners-up. But No Code has a thick muddiness I find very appealing, especially in the drums.stip wrote:I'd put Vs, vitalogy, and riot act ahead of it

Re: Which Album Has the Best Production?
Ten and Vs. are too "90s" generally - but I do love the reverb filled Oceans original mix.
Yield sounds like the band playing in a room - which is great, but doesn't work for everything. For example, In Hiding, should be as big a stadium-filler as Given to Fly, but falls a little flat production wise.
Binaural works, and sounds lovely on headphones - but loses some grit on the way.
Riot Act is fine, but the vocals sometimes get lost. Seems like production is an after thought on this record.
Avocado is a nightmare from which I'll never wake up.
Backspacer and Lightning bolt have far too much of a pop-sheen.
However, Vitalogy has energy and bite, while the slower songs resonate beautifully - THAT guitar tone on Nothingman is glorious. And No Code just works. The heaviest songs - Habit and Lukin sound INTENSE and on the verge of collapse, while the delicate moments such as Off He Goes are perfectly captured.
So, Vitalogy and No Code joint.

Re: Which Album Has the Best Production?
No Code and Yield are IMO the best productions. Binaural would have been better if they had used Blake's mixes instead of letting O'Brien jizz all over it.

Yeah, vitalogy is probably the answer.
