Started playing The Swapper for PS4 and it's a pretty neat little puzzle game. Love the atmospherics. Only got about 45 minutes into it but i'm looking forward to more.

Finally got the shortcut to level 13 built in Spelunky. On top of that, I've made it to the boss a few times now using said shortcut, but I haven't beat it yet. Just got through with an amusing attempt, though. In level 13 there's often (perhaps always, but it might be tucked away in some obscure corner) a mummy who drops the scepter, which is the most powerful weapon in the game. Mummies are tough to beat; a lot of HP and a deadly attack, so I usually just try to get one in a small space and bomb it.

This time I happened to be shoving along a push block just for the hell of it, as I sometimes do. I came across a caveman, followed shortly after by the mummy. So I think, "Shit, this could be bad, but you know what, I'm just gonna use this block to shield me from the fly attack and keep pushing it towards him and see what happens." And wouldn't you know, pushing the block into him kills him even if he's not pinned against anything. Easiest mummy kill ever. I made it to the boss afterwards and of course got squashed by it.

:D :nice: I didn't know you could kill mummies this way. I got lucky with a good bomb throw once. That was also the run I bet the game. The scepter is so much fun.
I managed to get to the boss from level 1 on again yesterday but then died like an idiot in 5 seconds after I played really carefully for like 20 minutes to get to him. :|

Still no winning, yet, but damn do I feel accomplished now. I finally made it to the City of Gold. I wasn't particularly well-equipped. I had spike shoes, but lost my pistol in a mad dash to escape the ice caverns and only had a handful of sticky bombs and ropes. I was set to attempt to make a lot of money, though, despite my lack of provisions. Alas, it was not to be. I managed to avoid a thwomp trap by jumping over it and then climbed a ladder into a more enclosed chamber. The only problem was I didn't look in there first and took an arrow to the face which then dropped me back down the ladder right into the path of the thwomp trap. Instant death ensued. God damn it, though, I made it!

To be honest, I never really had intention to do so myself, at least at first. I knew of its existence from the wiki, but I always figured I'd never be good enough or have the right luck to reach it. Once I got to the point where I could consistently get the Udjat Eye and the Ankh, I started making serious attempts at it, but never got the Ankh even close to the Moai. This time I had a cape, which I think was my saving grace. That and finding the Black Market on either the last or second to last level of the jungle.

Ah, okay. I never read about how to get to the Golden City because I wanted to beat the game from level 1 on first before going into secret stuff.

Now I also wanted to try and this was my attempt:

Yetis get ya? My closest attempt at beating the boss involved getting squashed underneath him with about one layer of brick left to go and then while the game over screen was up he smashed through the final layer and fell into the lava. It was some kind of poetic irony or something.

Haha, that's bad. Was it a full run from level one on?

And no, I just jumped to death like an idiot. :(

It pains me that only a tiny percentage of quality indie games are made available to console peasants.

I just beat Shadow of Mordor. 100%. I didn't even enjoy it at first either.

Bring on The Stick of Truth.

Am I doomed to find every game outside of Mass Effect, Telltale, and COD to be unsatisfying? :(

Say what you will about COD, but it has perfected its genre. The FPS mechanics are second to none and the campaigns are consistently the finest and most cinematic the genre has to offer.

You're losing video game credibility.

The COD games are boring as shit to me from what I've played. Very little choice or exploration. Not my bag.
