Anyway, none of this takes away from the fact that they've done tons of good stuff over the years.

Come on now, how can you deny that "I Appear Missing" is one of their finest moments?

I'm with you, Bugs. I love all of thier albums, but LC is probably my favorite. It's certainly the most consistent.

Era Vulgaris is still their best.

Lullabies to Paralyze
For my money, their first LP remains their best by a country mile; they've never come close to producing something as consistent again.
I don't think either Era Vulgaris or Like Clockwork are very enjoyable, hence their omission. Lullabies at least has a handful of alright songs.

Very little separating my top four - order frequently changes but generally settles as:
Rated R
Songs for the Deaf
Like Clockwork
QOTSA
Lullabyes to Paralyze
Era Vulgaris
I was a bit disinterested in QOTSA when Era came out so I've never really spent much time with it. I probably should get reacquainted seeing how many folks rate it as their fave.

I like them all. I 'd probably go with Lullabies or Songs For the Deaf at the top and QOTSA at the bottom.
also, this is still my favorite music video:

I don't understand Spenno in this thread.

After I finish with Lullabies, I'm gonna give self-titled a spin.

Dig it, Burt.
It's a matter of genuine, continual surprise to me that everyone else doesn't share my opinion on this.

Placing QOTSA at the top is more passable than placing Lullabies above Vulgaris and Clockwork . Just don't make no sense.

I feel as though this anti-Lullabies stance is comparable to those on RM who remain wedded to the idea that Riot Act is Pearl Jam's worst album - a circumstance where initial disappointment has clouded the ability to make an objective comparison to the band's later work.
Both are somewhat flawed albums that followed a run of consistently strong records and fell victim to being held to a different standard than later efforts when expectations were more muted.
Cleanse those doors of perception and listen again.

Self Titled sounds good. maybe I just like the weirder, softer side of QOTSA? I dunno. To be honest my list could change completely from day to day.
