Who said anything about being disappointed with Lullabies? It's a good album that just so happens to be their weakest effort to date, is all.

I also don't know anyone who thinks Riot Act is Pearl Jam's worst record, but that could be because I'd rather not talk to anyone about Pearl Jam if I can avoid it.

There's nothing soft about s-t. It's Qotsa at ther most primal, for sure.BurtReynolds wrote:Self Titled sounds good. maybe I just like the weirder, softer side of QOTSA? I dunno. To be honest my list could change completely from day to day.
I think Rated R is the weirder side of Qotsa, while Clockwork represents the softer.

It's espresso, it's whisky served neat; the undiluted essence of everything good about Queens of the Stone Age.
There's a pretty clear line for me with these guys, I think the well simply ran dry after Lullabies.

nah man. Maybe Vulgaris wasn't particularly interesting, but Like Clockwork is a great addition to the discography.Birds in Hell wrote:Exactly.Iprefertheiroldstuff wrote:There's nothing soft about s-t. It's Qotsa at ther most primal, for sure.

I like Self Titled though. I remember thinking of it as a transition album away from Kyuss, and it kinda is, but its still a rocking album. I'd probably move EV to the bottom now.

You're fine, I just can't believe how easily Burt folded under your gaze.

Plus it will really piss off LV if I hate on his favorite album.

They never topped their first album. Same story as the Foo Fighters.

Spenno's right about S/T: It's the distilled essence of QOTSA. Everything you need to know about their sound, their image, their attitude is all right there.
But each following album added a different flavor to the base recipe, and I think personal favorites are dependent on which one of those flavors is most personally appealing to the lister.
Personally, Era Vulgaris is my favorite. It's a needed return to the stripped-down rawkage of S/T and R after the dark, grandiose SFTD and LTP. But now the young-buck strut of those first two records has been replaced with an experienced swagger. They're rocking because they know they rock, not because they need to prove that they do. I think it's their leanest, meanest, sharpest, and most fun album.

I disagree! When I think qotsa I think Rated R or Songs For the Deaf. They are a lot weirder than Self Titled, which still has a lot of stoner rock in it (not that I'm complaining).LoathedVermin72 wrote:Spenno's right about S/T: It's the distilled essence of QOTSA. I've never listened to ST, Lullabies or Vulgaris - love the other albums though

I think that weirdness is part of the specific flavor R and SFTD are adding to S/T's base recipe.BurtReynolds wrote:I disagree! When I think qotsa I think Rated R or Songs For the Deaf.
