Absolutely not. I expect a certain standard of service from retail establishments, and I don't think not being spoken down to because of my preference for a slightly outmoded form of technology is an unreasonable standard to hold a store associate to. The most annoying thing was that, when I told her I wanted to speak to her supervisor, she tried to backtrack and say, "Oh, I'm sorry sir, I was just joking -- I really didn't mean to offend," to which I politely responded, "Thanks for clarifying, but I still think there is a time and place for funny business, and while you're on the clock at your job isn't it." She was visibly nervous -- like, maybe she makes comments like this all the time and was on her final warning or something -- and said, "Sir, I truly apologize -- there is nothing wrong with using old stuff like that, I have this uncle who still has a camera that uses film, and he's like my second favorite uncle." And I said, "I accept your apology, but fair is fair -- call him or I'll go tell the kid working back by the iPhones to do it." So she calls him up, and we stand there for like five minutes waiting for him to show up -- her attempting to stare at the floor or pretending to organize the receipts in her drawer, me standing there with my arms folded, staring her down. Finally the guy shows up and asks how he can help me, at which point I look at the clerk and say, "Well -- tell him what you did." She stammers through some halfhearted half-confession, half-apology, at which point I say, "You can do better than that," at which point she begins welling up and fidgeting, finally saying, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry -- I already said I was sorry. Please -- what more can I do?" And I said, "That'll do, pig -- that'll do."Iprefertheiroldstuff wrote:I hope that last part was a joke.
The manager sent her on a 15 minute break to collect herself and gave me a $10 gift card for damages. I used it to buy some socks and a pack of licorice.

That never happened, Kevin. No one buys licorice.

i'd agree that the sales person could have been more professional during KD's experience at the store, but felt it worth noting that it would have been nicer of him to accept her apology - seems she was terribly upset by the end of it, and it appeared to be a rather benign comment on her part is all. the ROI comes off as lop sided to me... (not trying to be argumentative , just feeling a bit of empathy for the sales girl.)

I'm on the camp that believes that story is a joke... it doesn't seem like KD to revel in humiliating a lowly retail employee like that.

I'm guessing it started out as truth. I think the event took place. But I'm guessing that the "full story" is merely inspired by actual events, but mostly dressed up for our entertainment.

I suppose you may have been using "lowly retail employee" in a literal sense. That word generally has a negative connotation in my experience.
