sorry for neglecting this thread Ruddo, but i dont want to get into too much speculation on who the Bucs will draft before the Combine and Pro Days and stuff like that happen...Especially since the media seems to be leaning towards them drafting the guy i dont want as much
though im trying to make myself ok with either option.

are you leaning one way or the other on the QBs? or possibly hoping they pass on both of them?

I don't like either, but not sure if I want another year without someone in there to get started on the future. And I certainly don't want Hoyer or Sanchez as another fill-in, might as well just go with McCown for another year.Dr. Van Nostrand wrote:E.H. At this point if I had to pick, and I know earlier before I had all the facts I said I didn't want Winston, but I would go with Winston out of the two. Or take the best OL first and then take one of the guys projected for 3rd/4th round and try to develop them.

if they could work a trade down maybe with someone like the Jets so its not too far away then id be good with OL, but there isnt a Tackle worthy of the top pick im pretty sure, there are a couple of D line possibilities but i dont know too much about them, and though this is a new front office, they havent picked a good DL player in a while, at least not first round worthy aside from McCoy and he was a no brainer pick after Suh was taken.E.H. though i dont really wanna try and decide who would be the best fit for the Bucs at QB i will say that i like the idea of Mariota more then Winston, partially because i dont like Winston as a person, and i kinda see him as a slightly better Byron Leftwitch, especially with the same long windup when he throws, but mainly i just like the idea of what Mariota can possibly become. Now i have by no means watched enough of either of them to feel like i really know them, but in Mariota i see a project but a project with a ton of potential, his athletic ability could be so exciting especially since he throws the ball really well and from what ive seen he keeps his eyes down field when he gets outside the pocket. the Bucs would be fine next year with either McCown or Glennon starting, they will hopefully play a lot better simply by having an experienced OC calling plays on game day and could easily let who ever they draft sit a year or most of a year which would do wonders for Mariota who needs to learn how to read defenses pre snap, how to take the ball from under center and how to control the huddle, but it would also give th Bucs a chance to learn how to adjust the offense to work with Mariotas style. He may very well be a Bust, but he seems like he has way too much potential and way too good of a work ethic to at least be a good pro QB with the potential to be one of the Greats,
Winston to me seems like you already know what you are getting, someone who could potentially step in day one and be good, but i dont know if i see him being anything special, if he has weapons to work with like he currently would then he could put up real good numbers, but i dont feel like he could take a bad team and make it great like i think Mariota could if he eventually lives up to the Potential. Winston to me is a Pocket Passer with a bit of mobility but prefers to stand in the pocket and make throws, but with his long wind up against much better and faster defensive players is gonna result ints and if he trys to force it in the way he did in college he will get picked a lot. not to mention the potential off the field issues.
Why the hell cant the Bucs have the #1 pick when there is someone like Andrew Luck available as a sure thing
ive heard people talking about the eagles trying to get Mariota, i would be afraid to trade with them because at #20 you miss all the potential great players and most likely the picks in future drafts they get from philly will be in the 20s as well, so id only wanna see a trade with someone like the jets so you only drop to 6 and likely will have another top 5 or so pick next year because they are likely to still be bad. as much as i know there are probably much better plays for them, i kinda hope they do pick one of the QBs just because i want to have something to be excited about again.
sorry, that was much longer then i planned it to be

Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
What would you think about a trade where the Eagles get the first pick and the Bucs get Philly's first, second, first rounder next year and Nick Foles? I am not 100% sold on Foles but I think he can at least be solid and is a significant upgrade over what you have. You could even draft a guy like Hundley in the 2nd round.Dr. Van Nostrand wrote:if they could work a trade down maybe with someone like the Jets so its not too far away then id be good with OL, but there isnt a Tackle worthy of the top pick im pretty sure, there are a couple of D line possibilities but i dont know too much about them, and though this is a new front office, they havent picked a good DL player in a while, at least not first round worthy aside from McCoy and he was a no brainer pick after Suh was taken.E.H. it would have to be at least 3 #1s 3 #2s and some combination of #3s and #4s even with Foles added in, i mean the Rams got 3 #1s to move from 2 to 4 right? even if the Eagles got to like 10th before making the trade, you still have to figure those picks from the Eagles are gonna be late in each round every year so they arent gonna hold as much value.BigRedLedbetter wrote:What would you think about a trade where the Eagles get the first pick and the Bucs get Philly's first, second, first rounder next year and Nick Foles? but i dont know if the Eagles really are thinking of moving to #1, i think they are figuring on #2 at best and hoping that Mariota drops like some are predicting and getting him around 10-15.

the Bucs are likely to cut Michael Keonan which will free up around 3 million in cap space.

yep, and i really hope they dont the wouldnt take the advice of a former linebacker as to which QB they need, especially a linebacker who went to school at the same place as the QB he thinks the Bucs should take.E.H. though i think DB would be a great mentor for his personal life and as to how to be professional, but who ever tampa drafts needs to be with the OC and QB coach 24/7 for his first full year in the league

hey Ruddo, what are your thoughts on Sam Bradford? obviously he is always injured, but if he did manage to stay healthy, you think he can be a good one? i get the feeling that Tampa would love to find a QB elsewhere and possibly trade out of #1, im probably wrong on that but if they were to try and find a QB before the draft and the Rams were to cut Bradford would you want him on the Bucs?
for me it would all depend on what they could get for the #1 pick, if they could load up on picks and rebuild the O line this year and still possibly draft a QB later this year to develop or be in line to draft one high in the next year or 2 with the picks they get in the trade then it might not be a bad idea. im just starting to do what i didnt really want to do and im getting anxious for the draft and trying to figure out all kinds of angles for how it could go

Bradford is ok, but I don't think he is a long term solution, especially with his injuries. If they are going that route I'd rather they pursue the Foles option with Philadelphia. I think Foles is a good managment QB that could fit well into Lovie's system. McCown tried to do too much last year.Dr. Van Nostrand wrote:hey Ruddo, what are your thoughts on Sam Bradford? obviously he is always injured, but if he did manage to stay healthy, you think he can be a good one? i get the feeling that Tampa would love to find a QB elsewhere and possibly trade out of #1, im probably wrong on that but if they were to try and find a QB before the draft and the Rams were to cut Bradford would you want him on the Bucs?

the only problem i have with the deal for Foles is that i dont see the Eagles falling off big time in the next couple of years, so the picks that Philly would give up would figure to be late in the round every year, so if it involved them moving up to #1 then the bucs might not have a chance for a real high pick again for a while, unless its their own of course.E.H. I get that concern, but the goal ultimately is to not have a high pick in the draft, that means you are doing something right. I'd take two first round picks at any position over the next couple of years if we were winning.Dr. Van Nostrand wrote:the only problem i have with the deal for Foles is that i dont see the Eagles falling off big time in the next couple of years, so the picks that Philly would give up would figure to be late in the round every year, so if it involved them moving up to #1 then the bucs might not have a chance for a real high pick again for a while, unless its their own of course.E.H. that most likely ends any possibility that they try to trade Glennon, unless they have a plan to bring in another Vet to mentor and or back up which ever Rookie QB they draft. if Glennon isnt gonna be the QBOTF then i would prefer to get something for him to continue to build the team, but he will be a better choice to start next year if they plan to sit the rookie. thats more Cap space now which is nice

yeah this pretty much solidifies them picking a QB. Not sure about all the hype of Mariotta dropping in the rankings, but if Lovie thinks he can manage Winston, I'm sure that is who they will take.
