making a movie about a black jazz musician, in and of itself, would not be racist. i'm not sure why you think it would be.

Are you serious? That's not my point at all. The protagonist is psychologically tortured by Simmons' character throughout. If he was black the masses would have missed the point and gotten their LV/Jorge minority defense mechanism on, and the film would have failed at the Box Office.

Please elaborate on what you feel the "point" is that audiences would have missed if the character were black.

The obsession with ambition and legacy, morally ambiguous methods of extracting worth from others, the sense of achieving vicariously and whether the ends justify the means.
