Sampling and all that other stuff aside, the misogyny and alpha thumping and even the gratuitous violence to a lesser degree, are all big things that have me leery of rap music. I used to be a giant Eminem fan. But as I grew up and he didn't, it's become harder and harder to listen to him.

The whole Slim Shady persona was one thing. It allowed for a lot of leeway. But now that he's abandoned that and he's still murdering woman, calling them bitches and throwing around the word "faggot" it's just lost all credibility. There isn't a larger social component at play. It's just noise and off-putting.

People say metal is aggressive, but really it's just aggressive musically, which I'm not even sure is a real thing. Lyrically, its usually more tragic or depressing than anything. Anyway it's far too cartoonish to be taken seriously to me.

I mean, even stuff like Run The Jewels is just a non-stop barrage of insults and anger and self aggrandizing. I'm really just not in the mood to hear a guy scream about how great he is and how angry he is for an entire album.
