The Vinyl Thread: Still Listen On Wax, Don't Use The CD

For those of you who don't have the 2014 pressing of Time Fades Away: I'm so, so sorry.

Any word on individual releases of those?

I'm just going from memory, but I seem to recall that Tonight's the Night, Zuma, and On The Beach are all getting individual releases at some point--but that this was the only repress of Time Fades Away. I'll try to find a source for that.

Unfortunately, I unwrapped my boxset (bought on eBay) to find that the sleeves for TFA and TNN were not glued properly--or, actually, it looks like they weren't glued at all (did some Googling, I guess this was a common problem). Unfortunate for the price tag and unexpected given the quality of the other Archive/Original Release series releases. But so far, the records sound phenomenal.

Oh well. I managed to find the 24-bit HD audio and will make due with my original copy of Time Fades Away. But those archive releases are fantastic pressings.

Unfortunately, at this pace, it's still a while away until I can finally get my hands on reasonably priced copies of Ragged Glory, Sleeps with Angels and Broken Arrow.

I did a lot of searching, and I wasn't able to find anything that confirmed my beliefs. So there's still hope that a standalone vinyl will be down the pipe soon. It's also been nearly 6 years since Archives Vol. 1...

If it's any consolation, Vols. 6+7 are going to be two of the best. Unfortunately, my first kid will be in college by then, so I doubt I'll be able to afford them.

So is Kanye's MBDTF totally not worth seeking out on vinyl? I'd love to be able to put this one on my turntable but am very cautious due to everything I've heard about Kanye records translating poorly to vinyl.

I'm assuming Abbattoir Blues/Lyre of Orpheus is one of the 3 that isn't getting a US re-release (Europe's getting 14, US 11). My assumption is that the 3 without reissues in the US are going top be AB/LO, Nocturama, and Dig Lazarus Dig. I ordered all 3 off Amazon from 3rd-party sellers; I got AB/LO and it's very well done. Worth the $30 it'll cost on Amazon!

You could try to put the Kanye album on your turntable, but you should be cautious because out of nowhere this album will jump out of it's jacket and automatically start spinning....

You could try to put the Kanye album on your turntable, but you should be cautious because out of nowhere this album will jump out of it's jacket and automatically start spinning....

Most rap sounds like shit on vinyl. I mean totally listenable and fine, but don't expect any audiophile nonsense.

Think it has something to do with samples being lossy? I've got a couple of Beastie Boys records (the extent of my hip-hop knowledge) and you can hear how many generations removed the samples are.

this months release is father john misty's new one, and vmp were able to get a clear vinyl variant for their issue. i just hope it isn't warped like the regular issues are experiencing... we'll see here in a couple days.

fyi for those getting father john misty as their first vinyl me, please- normally these come with an art print and cocktail recipe. this month they let fjm do the cocktail recipe and print- usually it's not the artist doing this- and suffice it to say it is what you would expect fjm to do and NOT what vmp would usually do.
