In fact, there's a good chance it's top two at the moment.

Re: The Cure
I'm away for work this week and Han Solo, so in preparation I took a few artist discogs with me I've been remiss with. The Cure has been having a good run. Listening to a Paris '93 show at the moment.

I must admit that I didn't give WMS much of a chance when it came out, but I have given it a bunch of spins over the last couple of years and there are some really top-notch songs on that album.Varis wrote:I am loving the shit out of Want at the moment.

Yup. The opening and closing tracks are awesome, so are "Treasure", "Trap", "Numb" and "Jupiter Crash". The b-sides from that album are also great, especially "It Used To Be Me".

Re: The Cure
Continuing on with my current Cure kick, I've recently been enjoying 2004's self-titled album having not really given it a chance at the time. There are admittedly a few weak moments but overall it's much stronger than I expected.
Taking Off, the second single from the album in the UK and Europe (the US got alt.end instead), is delightful:

I like "Taking Off" but something about the structure + arrangement always made me think that they were consciously trying to write a new "Just Like Heaven"

I think I like "Before Three" the best from that album.

Re: The Cure
Yeah, I've heard that criticism but it doesn't really bother me. It's definitely comfortably within the parameters of that aspect of Robert Smith's songwriting but I think it's strong enough on its own merits that it works.
I don't have any problem with a songwriter or band working the same broad sonic field repeatedly as long as the songs themselves are good.

Re: The Cure
I think I agree, it's just when it feels like a conscious retread ("let me see if I can replicate this thing") instead of an organic one ("oh, this came out sounding like this other thing") that I find it worth remarking on. Of course I'm not inside the artist's head, so I can only comment on what it feels like to me.

Yes, that one's excellent.theplatypus wrote:I think I like "Before Three" the best from that album.
I was very pleased to see that one return unexpectedly in the setlists of last year's shows.

Plainsong was used during a scene of Ant-Man, that was amazing.

Re: The Cure
I can almost guarantee they are headlining Sasquatch and Bonnaroo. Sasquatch is always the last weekend of May and Bonnaroo is in mid-June, and their tour itinerary lines up almost perfectly with both.Birds in Hell wrote:http://thecure.com/news/3203/the_cure_w ... ca_in_2016

I've never seen them and I can only hope they don't make me go to a damn music festival to see them. I want the full, 3+ hour Cure experience.

Re: The Cure
That Hollywood Bowl show is pretty tempting. Also, The Twilight Sad.
