The first time I watched Birdman I understood the essential existential themes it was investigating, and enjoyed the movie greatly. It didn't take me multiple viewings, but I'm a pretty smart guy. On the other hand, I think a lot of people who don't get the movie dismiss it as pseudo-intellectual garbage which its not.
