The director narrates the entire fucking movie and continually ties the themes back to him and his family. At one point, he "contemplatively" says:

"Apparently...there's no law...against banjo-playing either."

Then proceeds to walk in fron the camera - wearing a gas mask - and plays the banjo. Oh my gggggoddddddd
