Didn't they play around 40 songs on that last show? I remember closing down the spectrum was kind of a big deal at the time and rolling stone and billboard had articles praising the performances. Rolling Stone doesn't know what the fuck they're talking about. With a few exceptions here and there, the performances during those 4 shows were piss poor.SJM wrote:Didn't they play around 40 songs on that last show? I thought it referred to the fact that Ed said they were going to play their whole catalog, and they didn't. And if they had not repeated songs, they easily could have. That annoyed me, but I wouldn't have called it a debacle. Certainly not, THE debacle.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

Let's not start this again. The performance was not a debacle. These shows aren't nearly as poor as the goons make them out to be.Birds in Hell wrote:But that would be a ridiculous thing to complain about.B wrote:I thought it referred to the fact that Ed said they were going to play their whole catalog, and they didn't. With a few exceptions, 2009 was a pretty mistake-addled touring year in general. The Philly shows certainly aren't exempt from this but I would agree that they don't necessarily deserve to be singled out as unprecedentedly poor. If memory serves the first and third nights are better than the second and fourth.

Oh, I didn't mean to, I don't really have a strong opinion either way on the matter. I haven't listened to those shows since they came out.CopperTom wrote:Let's not start this again. I really just wanted to point out that I thought anyone walking in literally expecting the band to play their entire catalogue, as if that's desirable or even possible, is quite obviously the architect of their own disappointment. I understand being annoyed at the band for an underwhelming performance that you've paid good money for but not something so patently ridiculous as the above.

Re: It's awesome being a Pearl Jam fan
To the original post, I saw a Hip show on this tour and while it was a well-played show for the most part, $140 for the top ticket for a 1hr 50min show isn't a great deal. Also, Gord Downie relied heavily on a teleprompter. I don't think PJ fans would be happy with any of this (although I realize EV also uses help with the lyrics).
Regarding the Philly shows, there was no debacle. I've seen the band 45 times and the third night is still one of my favourite shows. I also really liked the first show. The last night was in the lower tier of the shows I've seen but I've seen worse. I think the 2009/2010 shows are a bit underrated now because the bootlegs sound so bad.

This is why Pearl Jam fans are awful. Their priorities are all out of whack.TouringReg wrote:To the original post, I saw a Hip show on this tour and while it was a well-played show for the most part, $140 for the top ticket for a 1hr 50min show isn't a great deal. I don't know, I think ticket price compared to length of performance is a pretty solid priority. Unfortunately an unnecessary amount of time at PJ shows is dedicated to Ed's horrible stage banter now.cutuphalfdead wrote:This is why Pearl Jam fans are awful. To the former - If you want to see Pearl Jam play an hour and 50 minute set with Ed using a teleprompter over the type of shows on the last leg of the tour then we certainly have different priorities.TouringReg wrote:I don't know, I think ticket price compared to length of performance is a pretty solid priority. To the latter - I agree the length of performance certainly matters. For example, there's no reason the Hip can't play 5-6 more songs for the price of the ticket. It's laziness really. What concert did you see this tour?
