Unthought Known has a few moments that eclipse anything in pendulum, but it's a very uneven song, whereas pendulum is consistently very good, with some ideas and moments i'd like to see them spend more time with in future songs (the sense of impending doom in the music that doesn't carry the melodramatic weight that gets attached to songs like this, Eddie actually throwing some wordless vocalizations back into a song, the way they up the tension in the second half of the song by bringing in a simple acoustic guitar). Plus it's been a great concert opener.

Pendulum.

But I do love to scream the lyrics to Unthought.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

My love for Pendulum has waned a bit, but I still consider it one of the better songs PJ has done on the last three albums.

"Unthought Known" really does have very few redeeming features. Even up against lesser songs it should have been out in the first round.

It's so weird, when I first heard Backspacer, I felt UK was so good, and "classic" PJ. The song quickly started declining though, and now I don't ever listen to it. I guess once the newness wore off, and the criticism from RM sunk in, the song plummeted for me.

it's a lot harder to enjoy something in the face of relentless criticism, but UK was certainly a song that didn't leave much for the listener to discover.

I think Pendulum has the biggest gap between my initial liking and my present liking of any Pearl Jam song. The style and mood of the song won me over at first but now it seems like a sketch of song to me. A kind of nice jam between Jeff and Stone with some half-assed vocals on top and then the song doesn't really go anywhere (except to the rather annoying AH AH AH AH AH part).

Unthought Known isn't that great but I enjoy it now and then. I certainly don't understand the hate it gets.

I rarely crave listening to it but when it pops up on shuffle I am always pleased.

I feel the same about "Pendulum". I still voted for it because "Unthought Known" is distilled mediocrity. This is a very weak match-up.

None of these songs are worthy of the posturing hate they get. Pearl jam has very very few songs that are flat out bad, and just about every one has some redeeming feature
