I love both Matt Cameron's drumming and his songwriting but I don't think his style works in Pearl Jam.

Pearl Jam haven't made an album I love since Matt joined and I don't think they can while he remains in the band.

Bummer.

You think its really all on the drummer though?
No, it's definitely not Matt's fault, but I don't think good songwriting alone is enough either.

I feel the same way about the post-Yield albums, but I just thought that's b/c I graduated college about then.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

I don't think it's any coincidence that my favourite Pearl Jam songs since 1998 are largely those Matt has written (Evacuation, In the Moonlight, Cropduster, Unemployable, etc.)

I seem to find it a lot easier to enjoy songs where the band adapts to Matt's more cerebral musical sensibility than him trying to find a way to work into theirs.

I'll say that I think Ten-Yield would be just as good as they are had Matt been in PJ then.

Exactly. Have you heard Matt try to drum to Who You Are? It's pathetic.

Really? I've always found Jack's drumming in "GTF" to be critical to the calming, gentle rumble of that song's verses. I don't think any of the Matt-era versions -- fine though many of them have been in their own regard -- come close to achieving that feel.

I like Matt as a drummer, even with PJ, but he causes most of the Irons songs to suffer in character.

Wait, what? Cameron? Matt? Cameron? Would've made GTF BETTER? Better, you're saying? Matt Cameron? Better on GTF than Jack Irons?

Wait, what?
