Currently have a Yamaha CR-600 that is on the fritz, the output on the left channel is weaker than the right even when I switch the left speaker to the right channel and the right to the left.

I'm debating between getting a much newer Yamaha or going with an Onkyo receiver. Any opinions? There is a Marantz on Craigslist but I am not sure if I wanna go vintage again...

I can hook up two. I can send audio to either just one pair or both at the same time. I actually ran speaker wires through the basement so I could put the secondary speakers in the living room and listen out there as well.

awesome, that option is exactly what i'm looking for! is that feature generally a safe bet for most vintage receivers? or is it an option that only some have?

Beats me, this is the only vintage receiver I've ever owned.

Does anyone have a Technics SL-1600, or have had one?

I found one that is in great condition with some nice updates to it. Listed at $300. Wondering if that's fair.

Is Harmon Karden still considered to be pretty good? I've been contemplating getting a HK receiver and some JBL bookshelf 3-way speakers.

I've heard of people plugging multiple tables into a switch box, but you'd want to get a good one. If it's not shielded or grounded well, it can cause a lot of humming. Same with DJ mix boxes

But there ARE receivers with multiple phono inputs. The Yamaha CR2020 comes to mind. Some Sansui models have it too

HK is notorious for producing too much bass in their modern stuff and JBL (which I believe is owned by HK) is shaky at best.

In general, you should avoid 3-way speakers unless you're spending $1,000 or more. A 2-driver speaker will almost always produce better sound unless you're spending big bucks.

Has anyone ever owned or listened to a pair of KLH Model 6 speakers? Been looking for some Dynaco A25s but having a hard time nailing some down for a decent price. A store in town has some KLH 6's and I've read excellent things about them, but curious if any of you have used them.

Talk to me about speaker placement, bro's.

loving my new speakers but they are currently on the floor (they are on a short little sticker foot though) and I feel they should be up a little higher.

I have those two 15 inch shelves that I can put them on but then they block the only window in the living room and it turns into a cave :(
