A friend of mine was raving about lox the other day. Isn't is just salmon? Why does it need a special name?

Good point. I had never looked at it that way.

just one? did you lose minutes at work today?
I'd had the other one earlier.

i'm sure i did.there's a total of 8 different occasions you're required to clock in and out for each day, miss one by even a minute and they deduct it. soon all i'll be eating is pop tarts because they're cheap. :/

you're part of the enemy camp, friend. you carry out reconnaissance for the management. traitor.
yes that is exactly what happens while i sit behind a desk all day
i knew it!
managers can be worse than employees for hr in a lot of ways
Hey Lenny, have you ever received a directive from a manager to put someone on an action/performance plan with objectives that can't be met simply so you can fire said employee? Because that's what my wife's HR department wants to do, so my wife can turn around and fire the poor guy. Oh, and the guy has a wife battling brain cancer. My wife may very well quit over this.
Is he a shitty employee?
Nope. They just don't want to pay him severance.

i don't deal directly with things like that, but in my experience it's usually the manager and not hr trying to pull something like that (not trying to say that the hr departments I've worked with are above it - I just haven't seen it)

I was under the impression the whole reason to put an employee on a performance improvement plan is to ultimately be able to fire them... that's how every company I've worked at up to now has done it. they never speak in those terms but that's the understanding. IMO its just a way for the company to cover its ass legally so if the employee tries to sue, the company can show "proof"of the employee's work not being up to standard.

that's true a lot of the time in that case

when i read his post my mind immediately went to a performance appraisal plan instead of performance improvement plan (probably because i had just got out of a meeting concerning my yearly goals/objectives leading to the year end performance appraisal)

Yeah just wasn't in the mood to eat the past couple of days, but now that it is done I'm starving. I might go to the local Lebanese place nearby for lunch today.
