Honestly, it's the album I'm least familiar with, hence the rating. I probably should have just left it unrated I guess.durdencommatyler wrote:PHATy, you and I tend to travel in the similar musical circles. I'm surprised to see Modern Guilt so low.

Re: Rank an Artist's Discography
Also, for reference, I love every album in Beck's catalog. All the way down through The Information. I just haven't listened to Modern Guilt in years and I really don't remember much of it. I may have only listened to it a few times when it was new and maybe 2 or 3 times since... So...

I'd probably put Watch the Throne in between Yeezus & 808s.

808s is slowly growing on me. I should probably at least put it above TCD.

Re: Rank an Artist's Discography
I only really listened to MBDTF and love some of the songs (Dark Fantasy, Power, All Of The Lights, Monster, Runaway and especially Lost In The World) but the rest only range from okay (Gorgeous, Devil In A New Dress) to annoying (So Appalled, Hell Of A Life, Blame Game) for me. Should I bother with any other of his albums based on this? MBDTF is frustrating for me as I love so many songs but could really live without the rest so it's not an album to listen the whole way through for me.

Re: Rank an Artist's Discography
I think MBDTF is one of the few rap albums that is better as a whole than the individual songs. I think it world better when I immerse myself in it rather than cherry picking songs.Mike wrote:I only really listened to MBDTF and love some of the songs (Dark Fantasy, Power, All Of The Lights, Monster, Runaway and especially Lost In The World) but the rest only range from okay (Gorgeous, Devil In A New Dress) to annoying (So Appalled, Hell Of A Life, Blame Game) for me. Think I’m going to try being kind to everyone a chance.

I'd like to agree and I think the same while listening to the album but then songs 7-11 come on and I change my mind again. The exception being Runaway which is sandwiched inbetween.

Check out Graduation. I'd say only two out of the 13 tracks are weak. Super strong, consistent album.
I also think Yeezus is one of the greatest things ever recorded and there isn't a dull moment, but it's an acquired taste.

Will check Graduation out and try Yeezus again which I did listen to once but it didn't really grab me. Some repeated listened might change that. I'm fond of New Slaves, Blood On The Leaves and On Sight already.

Hint for "cracking" the depth of Yeezus: the album is a narrative.Mike wrote:Will check Graduation out and try Yeezus again which I did listen to once but it didn't really grab me. Some repeated listened might change that. I'm fond of New Slaves, Blood On The Leaves and On Sight already.

I thought you hated narrative.LoathedVermin72 wrote:Hint for "cracking" the depth of Yeezus: the album is a narrative.Mike wrote:Will check Graduation out and try Yeezus again which I did listen to once but it didn't really grab me. Another hint: the narrative has subtext.durdencommatyler wrote:I thought you hated narrative.LoathedVermin72 wrote:Hint for "cracking" the depth of Yeezus: the album is a narrative.Mike wrote:Will check Graduation out and try Yeezus again which I did listen to once but it didn't really grab me.
