boohoo its so hard being an invincible supergod. bleh. hopefully that shit is kept to a minimum. I know you disagree, McP, but I much prefer the Avengers movie "being a god is pretty awesome" approach.

I think that feel and structure works really well for those characters.

I've mentioned before that I liked the first Iron Man (hoping to like the 3rd quite a lot, too, if it doesn't try too hard to be 'the emotional one') and the Thor movie. Mostly, my problems with the other Marvel movies has been the villains and the occasional slip into CGIgasm. The banter and the interplay in the Avengers was great.

What I would love to have is two girlfriends, one totally drama free (if a little surfacey) and the other totally messed up and intelligent. If Marvel can really lock in on what they do right, and if the DC movies learn from both the successes and the missteps of the Dark Knight series, I'll be thrilled as all hell. I just think that the character sets are so different that they fall on their asses when they try to mimic each other.

For example, I think a JL movie would have to play out the exact opposite of an Avengers movie...they come together immediately, and then totally collapse as an unsustainable force. I have a friend who said he thought that "the only reason Batman would ever team up with JL was so that he could learn about them and figure out how to take them down, because they're too powerful and he doesn't trust that not to corrupt them." That, I think, defines the differences between what works best in these two universes. The Avengers can assemble...but the League has to fall.

Spoken, mind you, by someone who has maybe read three comic books since 1988.

Marvel to me has come out swining (x-franchise and FF franchise not withstanding)

it was brilliant to put the common thread in each of the movies since IM1 and have it move along through Hulk, IM2, CA and thor. this at least gave you some background on how everything was linked. taking pieces from the ultimates and regular marvel universe helped to put together a solid team up of said hero's. Marvel heros have always been about the banter

DC movies havent been as great but solid overall. while nolans dark knight trilogy was a whole different monster from what i have read "that" batman wont be the same. while McP is correct about bats not trusting the other hero's he has devised ways to take each of them down. but if they just throw them all into a movie together without separate movies then it is going to be forced and not come across as genuine. sure everyone knows Supes, Bats and the amazon, but people only know GL that kinda sucked, the flash 90s tv show and more probably know patrick duffy as the man from atlantis than they do aquaman or the Superfriends version.

while i am not saying it cant be done i believe marvel was very deliberate and calculating not to overload too much into the ensemble that is the Avengers Franchise

Wouldn't every Superman poster, by design, be photoshopped? I mean, he's a flying dude. It's not like you can go take a picture of that.

Sorry ... I used "by design," and I should have used "by default."

They had a trailer for this last night before IronMan. Evidently some of the movie's been shot in IMAX. As if I needed more reason to be excited for this.

Just a warning to those who might want to go in "fresh": this trailer gives away a lot of the story.
