Kiss Me, Judas by Will Christopher Baer
An ex-cop/mental patient meets a beautiful prostitute in a hotel bar. He takes her to his room and then...hours later, he wakes up in a bathtub full of ice. His side is stapled shut. He's missing a kidney. And he's pissed off. That's the set-up of this brilliantly written nightmarish thriller. It's loaded with twisted humor and is just really cool.

Re: What are you currently reading?
wow, perfect timing! I was in the stacks at the library not twenty minutes ago trying to come up with the name of this book. I didn't feel like making a fool of myself and saying to the librarian, "I'm looking for a book. It's written by a woman, there's an alligator on the cover, and I think the name sounds like Portlandia. Do you have that?" I ended up taking A Visit from the Goon Squad. oh well, next time.Simple Torture wrote:That sounds cool. Tell him to publish a Kindle edition!

I read that a few months ago and was so-so on it. Interesting stuff near the end, didn't like it as much as "Look at Me," but had some cool parts. The Argonaut wrote:wow, perfect timing! There are a couple of narrative threads in Swamplandia, and I'm into some more than others, but overall i likey.

Re: What are you currently reading?
the only literature that's worth reading is about the bravery of men at sea, with only scurvy and male companionship to shepherd their paths into the ineffable void

I really enjoy books about human endurance. It really is amazing what people can overcome when they don't really have a choice.
