Because Woody Johnson idiotically forced the new GM to keep Rex for a year.

And then forced the new gm to trade one of the best players in the nfl (when healthy) when only 1 team was gonna have the money to think about trading for him.

I doubt (or at least hope not) that Johnson forced a Revis trade. Trading him does make good sense if bridges were irrevocably burned, and that certainly seems to be the case. Instead of getting a possible low compensatory 3rd for him in 2015, they get a 1st right now that they can use to accelerate the building process. Now, they actually have to be able to cash in on that new pick.

What is the point in paying a cornerback starting Quarterback money when the rest of your team is a mess?

Yeah he's a great all pro cornerback when he's not hurt, but his effect on the game is limited.

The Bucs got a ton better this offseason and the Jets got worse with this trade, but It's the right move for both teams unquestionably.

That said, I'm not quite sure where the Jets go from here in this draft.

I hope the Jets package their 1st rounders and move up to take Geno Smith.

In all seriousness, the whole deal with Team Gleason has been awesome.

God Damn the jets are classless, they wait till free agency has been open for over a month and the draft is over to release Tebow so he might now struggle to find a new team even if he is willing to change positions, they knew they were going to release him at the end of last year and now is when they finally do it. :shake:

I'm not sure they are smart enough to be classless honestly.

I just looked up how the Jets have done since Woody bought the team, and the answer is, amazingly, not too shabby. The Woody Jets have an overall record of 105-103. That looks perfectly mediocre at first glance, but in those 13 seasons, they made the playoffs six times, and have won six playoff games, including those back to back AFC title game appearances in 2009-2010. That's certainly better than, say, what Jerry Jones has done in the same timespan, and probably many other teams, as well.

I don't know. The value he may add to a team unfortunately has to be weighed against the ESPN circus that will follow. I think you'd really have to believe that he could contribute significantly to think it'd be worth it. The only other option would be to have an untouchable starter and to greatly limit Tebow's media exposure. But even that could still be a major distraction.

No.

I also don't see why a team would even really want to bring him in to do that.

I dunno. I mean I know what you're saying, but I think there are at least 96 better backs in the the NFL. And while he isn't one of the 32 best QBs, I (yes, I know I'm biased) think he is one of the top 96 QBs in the league.

I'm not even sure he really would be a good FB anyway. Running as a QB is totally different than running as a back. And again, with the circus that follows him is it even worth it if you have to teach a guy everything instead of having a guy who has been playing the position for years?

I'm not sure why an option team wouldn't bring him in for a look as a backup.

The problem with him is less with him now and more with the media.
