Weird, b/c I think he royally fucks Faithfull up by not letting the cymbals ring during the "echoes" part. He goes to the high-hat, which neuters the song, where as Jack let the cymbals ring. Huge difference and Matt's way is completely wrong.
I really, really wish there more good recordings of Jack playing Yield tunes live... It really was the album where he fully cemented with the sound of the band and they all played to his strengths and vice versa.
Aside from his drumming, which fits perfectly with the band, I liked the oddness he brought. Stuff like Hummus, Whale Song, and Happy When I'm Crying don't get made with MC. It's like when Jack left the weird in PJ left too.
weird pearl jam wasn't very good, D_V
Since stip locked the GTF/Faithfull thread after this last comment, I had to re-post here. I can't let such a statement go un-addressed.

Weird pearl jam is a pearl jam to be celebrated. I fully agree with DV on this one. Weird pearl jam is what made me a lifetime fan. The band going from the Mookie Blaylock/Once/Garden style to putting out something like Who You Are or Happy When I'm Crying or even Stupid Mop meant something to me then, and I wish they get back to this kind of fundamental weirdness today (although it won't happen). It's not that weird pearl jam is the only kind I like (all of their past styles can be very good), it's that it demonstrated the range that they were capable of, a range that they haven't even tried to attempt in 10-15 years now.

I love this post and whole heatedly agree. I agree mostly because I believe the band's ability to be free enough to explore the "weirdness" allows them to enter the creative zone that produced wonderful albums like Vitalogy & No Code, and to some extent Yield & Binaural. That was the band at their creative best. The band I enjoy most. And the band I feel was one of the best in the world.

Yup. This is why I love the Vitalogy -> Binaural stretch so much. Even with 3 different drummers, the band just seemed more willing to shred the "Jeremy" and "Alive" image and really try different things. This started with Vs, and songs like WMA, and in general the more raw sound of that album, then really came on with the Jack era, and seemed pretty much done after the newness of MC wore off. Maybe around 2003 or so, b/c that's when I see the live Improvs really dropping off.

By "inter-division tournament" do you mean "loser's bracket?"

I'm sure there's a plot afoot here. The year that it's redesigned to have latter day PJ feature in the last 16 is the year that PJ inc are aware of this madness. I'm sure if there was a stip PC audit we would find an email to PJinc. Pity it backfired and Avocado trounced BS & LB.

Let's reinstate NAIS.

I have no idea how to explain this on the front page. What just happened? Did it end with Division Champions, and then we tossed them back into a new bracket and started over with another Sweet Sixteen?

And what do I do with this graphic?
