Re: interdivision round of 16: Do the Evolution v. Immortali
this is super tough, as I like these songs basically the same. I might change my mind, but I'm giving the nod to immortality. Pearl jam has written any number of fast/aggressive songs that I enjoy almost as much (in some cases more) as DTE since Yield. I'm not sure there is a slow burner that comes close to Immortality since then.

Seriously, 9-0 for "Immortality" so far?
Y'all so crazy.

I don't know what to vote for in this one. They are both top 5 or 10 for me.

Maybe Jorge would like the original lyrics better? They're not clearly referencing Kurt Cobain as they do on the studio cut.

As privileged as a Jorge.
Both top songs that scratch different itches. Immortality is truly sublime though and Mike is outstanding (rare praise).

Re: interdivision round of 16: Do the Evolution v. Immortali
Immortality easily.
I never quite understood why DTE became some PJ anthem type song. It's good, I enjoy it, it rocks- stone is awesome, I understand.
But a song like Immortality embodies what I love about PJ (well, used to love) - rawness, intimacy in the face of grandeur, extended instrumentation, plus it closes what is vey clearly the best PJ album.
Plus, it reminds me of my grandfather for some reason, he died around the time that I got really into PJ, and I can't help but think of him when I hear this. Not really so much for the lyrics, but the general theme and the overall feel of an ongoing presence.
Anyhoo- Immortality easily for me
