I still turn up Livin on a Prayer, You Give Love a Band Name and Wanted Dead or Alive when I hear them.

Re: About your fandom...
I have a holy trinity sorta metaphor: (I should note, I am in no way religious, except when it comes to music...)
The Father (or mother you might say): Ani Difranco. My first musical obsession, and still a huge influence on my music tastes...
The Son: Ryan Adams. Music obsession number two - got close to getting a tattoo and everything.
The Holy Spirit: Pearl Jam. When I discovered PJ it was like every "rock" band I'd listened up to that point was ALMOST as good - but not quite PJ. I should note that I only got into PJ in 2012 - but it only took them 3-4 months to top every other band for me. Ten through to No Code is perfection. WHAT THE FUCK WAS I DOING IN THE 90'S?!
The 12 apostles:
Bruce Springsteen, Wilco, Death Cab for Cutie, The National, Tom Waits, The Frames, Jimmy Eat World, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, REM, Josh Ritter, Anais Mitchell.
The holy water:
THE BEATLES.

Nice. A buddy of mine has a line from I See Monsters tattooed on him. I have a line from a Smashing Pumpkins song tattooed on me and my next tat will be Pink Floyd inspired.
Also I really like Josh Ritter. So underrated.

Ok, I give up... What are the SP and PF lines?
btw, I have to turn the channel when I hear Bon Jovi these days, but Slippery When Wet was prolly my first pop music obsession... that or Madonna's True Blue. The Beasties, Metallica, and GnR pretty much ended that, though. I did one of those mall karaoke-onto-cassette tape recordings when I was 12. It was Wanted Dead Or Alive (side a) and Fight For Your Right (side b)... Must have been right at the turning point.

The SP lyric is "we won't belong" from the song Spaceboy in Agatha font which is the font used for the Siamese Dream cover. One of my favorite songs of all time and I really relate to it.
Correct..... really want "The child is grown, the dream is gone" tatted somewhere. Might be my favorite lyric ever written. This will be done this spring sometime.LetMeSleep wrote:I think it's from Comfortably Numb (mentioned before or I'm going mad/psychic)

Re: About your fandom...
Great song! First time I saw the band was Lolla '94 in Dallas... First dance at my wedding was to "For Martha"... SP is my Beatles of the 90's, and I try to pretend that they didn't exist after the Machina-era.BigRedLedbetter wrote:The SP lyric is "we won't belong" from the song Spaceboy in Agatha font which is the font used for the Siamese Dream cover. I liked half of Dilate and the fish bowl one. Up etc didn't do it for me. Living in Clip was okay too. I just got over her pretty quickly.

I haven't been that interested in much of anything post Little Plastic Castles, but everything prior to that is very solid. She's always been a hit or miss artist for me but her best stuff is so good.
This is a favorite.
"and they say that goldfish have no memories
I guess their lives are much like mine
and the little plastic castle
is a surprise every time
and it's hard to say if they're happy
but they don't seem much to mind"

Re: About your fandom...
I used to do the whole preaching the PJ gospel, trying to convert friends and all of that... every time I seemed to be making some real progress (as in friends taking notice to PJ in the news, new album releases, new singles, etc.)... a new PJ album would come out and leave my friends feeling rather underwhelmed (at least the last few records). I usually hear the same comment: "It starts off pretty good but then it just fades into pretty forgettable, generic rock". Seriously, this is what I've heard from most of my friends about the last 3 albums. It just doesn't work for me to say "Hey, you should check out Pearl Jam. They had some great albums in the '90's. But don't listen to their new albums or else you won't be convinced that they're actually a really great band." People want new material, not albums from 20 years ago. I've done my part but I somehow feel like PJ hasn't really held up their end of the bargain. (And for the most point, I like all of their albums and still listen to their last 3 on a regular basis. They're just not strong enough for me to use them as a tool to convince someone.) So for now I'll just quietly sit back and listen and mumble my answer to the question.
