What was the first cassette/vinyl/CD/MP3 you ever bought?

Other than Pearl Jam, who else is there?

All were pretty big moments for me...

except the first MP3 purchase, evidently. I think I remember 7/11 having this deal... 1 free MP3 for every Slurpee purchased. I bought a shitload of slurpees and made a compilation cd. If buying In Rainbows for $0.01 counts, then my Slurpee Songs compilation should count, too, I s'pose.

I actually have a chronological sequence of framed photos of me posing with each of the items I listed in my post, hoisting each object aloft as an athlete might do with a trophy. They hang in our living room, next to our wedding photos. Sometimes our oldest daughter will point at them and say, "Dad, tell me about that picture again." And I'll say, "Oh, sweetie, it was a day I'll never forget. Your mom, she looked so beautiful, and..." Then she'll interject and say, "No, Dad, not that -- tell me about Huey Lewis. I want to hear about Huey Lewis. Tell me about the time you saw him live on the 'Fore' tour and he opened with 'Jacob's Ladder.'" And I say, "Well -- the year: 1988. The opener: Belinda Carlisle. And back then, everyone was a little square, but that was okay, because..."

I always loved the cover of 'Clint' that Jebediah did but had never heard the original, so when I got iTunes I took the opportunity to purchase this single track. The Jebediah version was better.

The first 3 CDs I ever bought all came in the same order from BMG. I already had a cassette collection (most of which I still own), but I had just gotten my first CD player and these were the three I bought first. I'll never forget.

Pearl Jam - Vitalogy

Stone Temple Pilots - Purple

Nirvana - Unplugged

Cassette - Either Weird Al - Bad Hair Day, The Lion King Soundtrack, or the Space Jam soundtrack. Unless you're counting stuff bought with my own money, then it would be Kanada 70 - Whumble Scrap SSE.

CD - I think was Korn - Follow the Leader (though now that I think about it, that was one of those BMG things, so there were probably a couple others in there, too.)

Vinyl - Constellation Records' Musique Fragile 02 set

MP3/Digital - No idea. Probably whatever the first thing I got when I started my eMusic account in 2009. I don't think I bought any full albums from iTunes before then. Even if you want to count single songs, I don't remember for certain. I remember cashing in some of those free iTunes downloads from Pepsi or whatever in college and getting stuff like a Wellwater Conspiracy track.
