Re: What movies are you watching?
Foxcatcher. I was disappointed; the critics seemed to have liked it a lot more than I did. Slow pacedmovie where not much happens, especially in the first half. Steve Carrell's had better dramatic roles; he did okay in a dramatic role but his makeup was distracting and the performance is monotonous. If John DuPont was like that in real life that's one thing but it wears on the viewer. His character is not likeable, which is fine, but you never get any empathy or understand a reason why the film ends like it did. It's really more of Channing Tatum's movie though. As for his performance, well, um, at least he handled the physical part of role well.

While We're Young.
Really enjoyed it. Not Baumach's best. But probably his most accessible. Definitely surprised me a bit. And had some fantastic, poignant moments.

I felt about the same, but the more I think about it, the more I can't figure out what was wrong with the last third.Orpheus wrote:It Follows was good. Liked the first 2/3 or so better than the last part, but it was good (and scary).

The scenes at the beach and the pool were really weak, mostly because of shoddy CGI. I liked parts of the movie, like how it took themes of adolescence (sexual curiosity, social anxiety, unrequited love) and bent them into traditional horror tropes, also the melancholy tint to the quieter moments, but it didn't quite work for me as a whole. I see it's being showered with unending praise, so maybe I missed something? It also didn't come off as scary to me at all.

Yep, those scenes were weak for me as well. I liked it quite a bit overall, and I found it scary, but I also am a bit of a pussy and literally hadn't seen a horror movie in the theater in over 10 years.theplatypus wrote:The scenes at the beach and the pool were really weak, mostly because of shoddy CGI. Watched Dumb and Dumber To. It was bad. Having said that, there were a few LOL moments. I don't know if I'll go back and watch it a few more times as I have with the original. What did y'all think of it?
Up next, Annabelle. This one looks terrifying

Don't waste your time with Annabelle - what was in The Conjuring was much scarier and well executed

Watched the Going Clear documentary, which was... fine. Kind of stale presentation of information that was already public knowledge, and much better explained in the book. It made me want to watch The Master again, so I did. Still stunning. I think it may legitimately be my favorite movie of the last 10 years.

Re: What movies are you watching?
Thats what i thought too (on both movies). Going Clear didn't really say anything I haven't heard before except for the sheer amount of money they've been able to amass. You don't have to rip off many people to make a fortune when you don't have to pay taxes.theplatypus wrote:Watched the Going Clear documentary, which was... fine.
