Listening to the 2014 US boots lately, I've been surprised how well this album's songs held up for me in that context - even Future Days!

It's kind of unsettling...

I've found let the records play to be much better on the boots than the album.

having listened to this album by incident in a CVS the other day, I am surprised by how well albums by all other bands hold up to this album

It's been a year since I've listened to this album.

I just really have no desire to hear it or Backspacer. Those two albums also make me not want to hear any live shows from 2009 to today. Even if the songs are improved live, I still don't want to hear them right now. I guess at some point I'll re-listen to both LB and BS, and maybe check out some boots from their era, but I'm in no hurry.

I mean I "get" it and all. But it's weird to me. Backspacer and Lightning Bolt are far from Pearl Jam's best albums. But they're even further away from bad albums. There's a lot to like (if not LOVE) about both of them. It's weird to me that people dismiss them out of hand like they're terrible rock records or something. I mean, to each their own. But still.

I can find a lot to like (and some to love) on LB, but Backspacer just does very little for me. There are a few decent moments, but there isn't a single song on BS that I don't have at least some problems with, and the majority of the album I find to be dreadfully unoriginal and musically stale and boring.

I suppose that's all fair.

Maybe I don't listen to enough music to find either album offensive. Boring, that's subjective, so I can get on board with that opinion, however I may disagree. Stale? Probably, but I'm not sure there's much out there in the mainstream that isn't if we're all being completely honest.

But overall, I see what you're saying. I still really enjoy listening to LB especially.
