This season really needed to be 12 or 13 episodes. That finale was a jumbled mess.

Watched the finale again. I might've been too hard on it. Up to when he goes to Chicago it's really good-- that scene with Hamlin was oddly bittersweet, and the bingo monologue was outstanding. The Marco hijinx were a little too wacky for me. I think I just expected all the story strands to converge at the end of the season, but I guess they made this when they knew they were coming back for season 2. Still wish I'd seen more of the Nacho storyline, but I'm guessing that will all appear next year.

I feel like he needed to "break bad" for lack of a better phrase to be able to make sense that he'd get involved with Nacho aside from the times that nacho threatened him

I'd say a lot happens on this show. We have a reactive protagonist who gets continuously pushed back to his starting point, which can make it seem like a lot of treading water, but in actuality is just a different kind of action. The AV Club had a great review of the episode Alpine Shepard Boy where they wrote about how much of the show is about Jimmy languishing in the dreary mundanity of his life in New Mexico (which is, as we saw in the finale, necessary in order to set up his eventual turn to the Saul Persona), and how the show is built to reflect that. It is leisurely paced, and I love that about it. More driven by character moments than a season-wide story arc, with even its "big moments" feeling modest and somewhat muted compared to its predecessor's exploding drug den and madcap meth-McGyver antics. In any case, I think "guilty pleasure" is silly; it's a consistently beautiful show to look at, it's smartly written, well acted (for the most part), and just oozes charm. It's also very funny, and weirdly heartbreaking at the same time. I'm a big fan.

what important conversations happen while we are outside of a room? Hamlin telling Jimmy he isn't going to be hired as a lawyer? That was done for effect and you could tell based on non-verbal cues what the conversation was.

We didn't need to hear it to know Chuck was going behind Jimmy's back; we just didn't know for what.

Episode 9 was fantastic. Odenkirk has been top notch throughout the show. The just need to move the show more towards Saul Goodman and not Jimmy McGill
