Oh, it so isn't. It's fantastic. The numerals appeared nowhere in the original trilogy marketing. It wasn't until the prequels that they became a thing.
Getting rid of them is actually a masterful part of the nostalgia of it all and kind of a finger to GL. Which, good for JJ.
I don't think that's true. I believe ESB was always Ep. 5. ANH got the episode# long before the prequels.
Nope.
Here's the original poster for ESB. No roman numerals
In the marketing and in the movie are seperate things. I'm 99% sure that my SW VHS tapes all had episode #.
No, of course. The original had Episode 4 in the crawl. That's always been there.
When Lucas made the Prequels he rebranded everything with the Episodes up front. The Phantom Menace became commonly called Episode I because of it.
In conjunction with that he rebranded the OT with the Episode Numbers as well.
JJ is going back to the subtitle being featured, not the numeral. Which is cool.
joey, would your head explode if st. vincent played in your living room with the first-ever screening of episode 7 playing on the tv in the background?

Joey and St Vincent vegging out on the couch eating popcorn and watching Star Wars. Then the movie ends and she sensuously leans over and whispers into his ear: "That made me want to fucking JAM THE HELL OUT" *guitar shredding*
