I have no problem with it, either. My post was more a comment on the hilarity that is the Edmonton Oilers.
Yeah, it seems like they've had the #1 pick every year for 10 years.
The did the smart thing and took the Penguins/Blackhawks approach: bottom out and load up on high draft picks. Actually, they were even luckier than those teams because they picked first overall three consecutive seasons.

The only major difference is that, at this point in their development, the Hawks and Pens were celebrating a Stanley Cup win, while the Oilers are about to add another top-5 pick in preparation for another "developmental" year.
I would disagree that they were luckier...the Penguins ended up with Malkin/Crosby/Fleury, the Hawks ended up with Kane/Toews...none of the kids Edmonton ended up with(with all due respect to Taylor Hall, who is very good) is anywhere near those talents (i could argue that the other two Edmonton picks haven't even been as good as Jordan Staal was, nevermind the other guys), and as much as I love watching Fleury crap himself every year now this time of year, he's still worlds better than anything Edmonton has had in net since Dwayne Rolosson

I REALLY want Ottawa to retaliate tonight, it will never happen, but it would be awesome if it did...can you imagine the Montreal fans screaming bloody murder if the same exact thing happened to Paccioretty tonight?

I am going to miss watching this kid in Grand Rapids.

Red Wings fan from Winnipeg here. I love watching this guy. Howard has such bad body language after bad goals. Petr responds so well to pressure and adversity. Hope he can stay hot!
they had no business winning that game (and i'm a red wings fan)
No doubt. I can't tell you how many Wings playoff games I've watched go the other way ( completely dominating but losing in the end). The first and second stars were Mrazek. It's not a sustainable way to win though. The second line was garbage.

On the flip side, the Lightning had no business winning going 0-7 on the power play.
There's the dog. You can't fake that stuff. Confess with your mouth.

You can't always get what you want...
Stone was right back in the lineup and even had 2 assists so that pretty much tells the story. Meanwhile it was great to see Pk totally redeem himself.

The whole thing was really overblown anyway. I mean, bad on Subban for slashing like that, but a game misconduct was harsh. Ottawa fans are the worst, especially for thinking that deserved a suspension

given the choice between retaliation in that game or Vancouver winning, I'll take Vancouver winning

even if Hamhuis is a fucking idiot

Would it almost make more sense for Edmonton to try and work a Lindros type trade for the right to the 1st pick? They have a lot of good talent up front but no goalie and no defense

Probably. Especially if McDavid doesn't wanna be there.

This notion just excited me as a wings fan.

The NHL should have just done it again until EDM didn't win.

Why even have a lottery? They don't do it in the NFL or MLB. The Sabers should have just had the first pick. T-Wolves this year for NBA. But the Knicks will get the first pick. The fix will be on.

The lottery was simply an attempt to get rid of teams tanking, and it clearly doesn't work, as you really don't see NFL or MLB teams tanking (at least as blatantly)

True. In most drafts Edmonton could just pick someone else and it would not be that big of a deal. In this draft though McDavid is head and shoulders ahead of everyone from what scouts say. This will be interesting.

Jack Eichel is a pretty good consolation prize, but I think its dumb that Buffalo finished last 2 years in a row and did not pick 1st either of them. I get that they are trying to keep teams from blatantly tanking for a top prospect, but it seemed like they implemented this year's "last place only gets a 20% chance of drafting #1" to punish the Sabres for committing to be bad for 2 seasons. I guess I can be thankful they didn't just skip right to next season's setup where they draw the top 3 picks, because I'm pretty sure the Sabres will be markedly better with players the will be leaving/coming back from injury + offseason moves. Who knows? pretty much anyone that misses gets a shot at a good pick

*coughANDREWLUCKCOLTScough*

MLB teams don't tank because there is the least amount of certainty with those draft picks

The Sabres have spent two years tanking intentionally, I'm glad they got screwed (well, as screwed as they couldve' gotten this year, Eichel will be a beast in his own right)
