I was supposed to run to the gym, then do some Yoga with my wife before our Gaslight Anthem show last night. Instead, I ate an entire family-sized bag of Takis and took a nap. I'm not sure that was a wise choice.
Hit the canals after 4 full days off. Felt pretty damn good. My confrontation at last night's concert still had me kinda geared up. It was overcast and cooler (mid-70s). 37 out. 35 back. Never really pushed myself until I finished with a 6:15 final mile. Great run.

For me, your times are amazing. Best mile I ever ran was 6:49. I can do about 3 miles at a brisk jog but I wear down quickly after that. I think my problem is discipline. I get bored running. Biking though, that's another story!

I'm nothing special. I have zero athletic ability. I can however generally endure large amounts of pain, so ultrarunning is really my thing.
I think most people can be far better runners than they think. All it takes is dedication. And minimalist shoes, of course.

Most I ever ran was 13. Not a race or anything but it was in the prime of my "running" kick. Right before I got major IT band issues and Patella problems. It took a couple years of working up to that but I remember that run being one of the easiest runs ive had. Its amazing how easy it can be if it just becomes something that you do. I no longer run as often because too many other activities (so many activities!) also take up my time. If im not focusing on running everyday then running 6-8 miles becomes more of a challenge than it once was. Im fine with that though because I enjoy biking, yoga (duh), skiing, hiking, climbing etc... However, I felt as though I looked sexy as fuck when I was running all the time.
I'm kinda sad to report that recently my running has been more about "not getting fat" than it's been about the shear joy of it. A lot of that has to do with not hitting the trails as much as I use to. Driving to and from a trail adds at least an hour to my run. That's another hour my wife gets stuck with all the kids. If I run from my house, I can be done and showered in an hour and a half.
I hope to find some joy in chasing a sub-3 hour marathon and running Boston next year.
ALso, I remember my college hockey coach wouldnt allow us to suit up unless we could run a sub 6 minute mile. I thought that was odd as it is a completely different athletic approach than hockey. Long distance v interval training. I got a 5:28 though! Its all been down hill since...

I would guess that with some dedication over a month or so, you could do a sub-5:30 mile again.
Squeezed a quick routine in last night, short sets with increased weights. Did some ellipitical but prob not enough to really count for anything. I was doing good on my cardio there for a while but I've unintentionally slacked off on that lately.
My resting heart rate is in mid 60s; only slightly lower than average for my age.
got in a rare morning, quick 3.5 mile run in today after 4 days off and serious battle with food poisoning. so i was not fully energized. still felt good to get back on the road.
I bruised the shit out of my left heal while taking my Dad's gigantic Labradoodle for a bike ride. In sandals. The beast saw a squirrel or something and took off in front of the path of my bike and I had to bail. Landed on my feet but it fucked me up!
He also eats my moms dogs shit. Right out of the oven.
