What movies are you watching?

Went to a Tribeca Film Festival screening for the first time yesterday. Sister in law was in town and picked the movie. We saw Tumbledown.

I enjoyed it. It has some wonky moments and some problems for sure. Far from a perfect film. And it lacks that little ineffable thing that makes something like this ring; that makes these sorts of films great films. But overall I really enjoyed it. The original music is fantastic. And I'd recommend it.

St. Vincent is a charming and funny film. You will enjoy it.

i went with whiplash, but definitely want to see that...bill murray is easily one of my favorite thespians

ultron was incredibly whiny. what a whiny villain. i hate whiny villains.

A most violent year.

Good one. Liked both isaacs and chastain but the movie felt a little flat and useless at the end.

Little indie from last year called, About Alex (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2667918/?ref_=nv_sr_1). Starring Nate Parker, Jason Ritter, Maggie Grace, Max Greenfield, Aubrey Plaza, Max Minghella and Jane Levy.

There's not a scene in the movie that you haven't seen some variation of before. It's rote. Excepting the modern digital and lost-generation-type commentary, we've all been here, heard it, thought it, said it before to some degree. But originality isn't what it's going for. Authenticity and empathy and nostalgia are the vehicles that take us down the road to Alex. And the actors are so good and the characters are so well drawn and engaging that it makes for lovely viewing. I was gripped.

It's the best Aubrey Plaza has ever been. She's completely different in this than I've seen her before. Max Greenfield is becoming a huge favorite of mine. And even Maggie Grace who I found hammy and stilted (for the most part) on LOST, shines. She's really coming into her own. There isn't a bad turn by anyone, though.

I highly recommend it.
