As soon as the last little fucker got picked up at 10:58, I went for a 7 mile pace run. It was windy as shit, but I was euphoric. 6:57/mile pace. Holy shit, I am starting to resemble an actual runner!
I told you, man!
You're a 3-hour marathoner if you put in the work.
You did, and I appreciate it. I think about that frequently when I'm running. Did the same route today for my pace run. I came out a little too hot and ran mile 1 in 6:28. The section of the route that is a mile uphill killed me today because the wind was blowing right in my face. I ran that section 20 seconds slower than last week, but overall I improved by 2 seconds for a 6:55 average.
I don't fear the work, but I struggle with nutrition. I am weak-willed in that area. It's frustrating.
50-mile race is on Saturday. Field is fucking stacked. Zero chance of a Top 10 finish.
I’m feeling good, but will stick with my 12-hour finish goal for the race. I’ve read too many race reports where this course just ate people up. We’re talking 2:30 marathoners that finished in over 14 hours. 50 miles at altitude with 10,000+ feet in elevation gain is just too much to recover from if I go balls out and bonk. I’ll be doing 5 run/5 walk on the ups and then cruising on the downs. And I’ll also be trying like hell to eat a gel every 30 minutes. This one's gonna hurt.

Trying to send positive thoughts your way right now. Did my 7 mile pacer again today. I continue to do that on the same route for comparison purposes. Plus, it has a nice variety of flats, uphills, and downhils. Avg. pace was 6:53. Another 2 second improvement. This, btw, was my first alcohol-free week.
Did my long run today. Just shy of 50 miles. 16 i am meant to go at an easy pace today, so I was hoping for 8:15, which is a minute short of the pace I am hoping to keep. Wound up going 7:57. First 12 felt great. Left leg felt like shit after that. And the one gel I took at mile 9 gave me gut rot at mile 12. Still, on the back of yesterday's fast seven, I feel pretty good.
ugh you guys make me feel like a loser. I am consistently running 3 km every 2 days. I'm just happy when I don't have to break in the middle. I constantly have pain on the inside of my calves/shins. maybe thats just getting into shape.

Sounds like you need better and/or more suitable shoes.

Pop it. Drain it. DO NOT remove the deflated skin. Put some ointment on it. Let it breathe when you can, but then wrap it fairly tight with good medical tape when you are running. If you find that it's constantly moist, put witch hazel on it to dry it out.
Also, don't listen to the internet... DO NOT put super glue on it.
any idea how to strengthen meniscus? i'm pretty sure thats what my problem is w/ my knee right now. i kinda over extended it the other day and it felt like bone on bone. now it throbs right below my kneecap on either side of my knee. i also went running in between overextending it and today, so i probably shouldnt have done that. right now i'm just icing it, but i'm open to anything, including shooting steroids directly into it. this thing hurts.
8 miles Saturday. 6:54/mile.
"Easy" 18 today in 2:20:20. Felt like I might piss and shit myself for the better part of the second half.
Looking forward to a relatively easy week minus Tuesday's hills.
Mellow training lately. Only 50 or so miles a week. Want the legs to be well-rested for my Grand Canyon run. I was up in the air about it before, but I am gonna end up doing a double crossing, mostly because I couldn't secure a room at the North Rim Lodge. Gonna shoot for ~11 hours. Just want to have a solid run, then come back in the fall to add more speed.
Ran my third half marathon yesterday and PR'd the fuck out of it. My first 1/2 was 2:02, my second was 2:00 (but I had to stop and pee and according to my watch that took 1:38 seconds, which is absurd).
Yesterday I did 1:53. The last three miles were tough and mile 13 was my slowest. The humidity and the rain took their toll. But I had enough to push it for the last tenth and I felt great after. Super happy about this race.
