I can't believe anyone uses those apple headphones. So bad. What did you go with?
Good quality headphones are magical. For sure.

Re: Tell me about yr music collection: digital, CD, vinyl, e
My wife got me a pair of in-ear headphones for my birthday. I wasn't sure I was going to like them. But the sound is immaculate and the noise canceling is impeccable. I don't even hear those stupid Showtime! Showtime! kids on the train when I have them on. They're from Kef. The m200s I think.Strat wrote:durdencommatyler wrote:I got my first pair of headphones that weren't Apple headphones last week and I gotta tell ya, KD.... ALL the fucking difference. Mrs offered to get me a different brand if I didn't like the in-ear thing. I decided that IF I didn't like them I'd ask to switch to those Senheissers. But I didn't have to worry about it.Strat wrote:durdencommatyler wrote:My wife got me a pair of in-ear headphones for my birthday. I wasn't sure I was going to like them. But, yeah, those are next on the list for at home, super long listening sessions. The Kef's are fucking fantastic for life in NYC, though. I'm on a train or walking in fucking crowds SO MUCH. I also listen a lot in bars when I'm writing. They're perfect and the sound quality/clarity is surprising. Especially coming from iFuck earbuds.

i actually need to pick up some good in ear headphones before I go to italy. Not sure I want to lug around my can's. A good in ear headphone is super key for such situations. I definitely like listening to music at coffee shops, bars, buses etc.durdencommatyler wrote:Mrs offered to get me a different brand if I didn't like the in-ear thing. I don't think you can beat Bose SoundSport for earbuds. They actually stay and stand up to the elements better than any other earbuds.Strat wrote:i actually need to pick up some good in ear headphones before I go to italy. Are they actually decent sounding or am i just paying more for the sport aspect of them?

They are the best sounding earbuds I've tried. They stay in even while trail running and are comfortable for long usage. If you don't care about the remote or the additional sweat protection, the SoundTrue is nearly $40 cheaper.Strat wrote:surfndestroy wrote:I don't think you can beat Bose SoundSport for earbuds. Yeah. I had no idea. I don't really talk to people who hate vinyl or vinyl culture. And the people who I know that are super into it are all really respectful, knowledgeable and chill.cutuphalfdead wrote:Really?durdencommatyler wrote:I really had no idea there was this perceived culture of douchebaggery surrounding vinyl. I don't doubt you've managed to find a kickass pair of headphones. All I mean to say is that I've never had that experience of listening to new headphones or a new stereo system and suddenly feeling like I'm hearing recorded sound again for the first time, as though all my listening prior to my receipt of x piece of gadgetry was a sham, which is not uncommon verbiage from audio geeks when discussing listening accessories. I have done most of my life's listening on suboptimal audio equipment in suboptimal listening environments and I don't think it's ever prevented me from "fully experiencing" the music. When I hear "Ten" on a really nice sound system, it doesn't feel to me like I'm hearing a new album; it feels like I'm hearing "Ten" being played on a really nice sound system. I can appreciate and enjoy that, but it's low on the list of things that affect my capacity to appreciate music.durdencommatyler wrote:I got my first pair of headphones that weren't Apple headphones last week and I gotta tell ya, KD.... interesting.
This all sounds very apparent to me when I listen to a leaked album that may have leaked at a lower rate/crappy quality. Ill get used to this sound of the album. Then it will actually be released and I hear it in its full glory and it is an entirely different experience. Sure, i still loved hearing x song in a lower quality, but i love it even more hearing all the ragged glory as it should be heard. I think equipment absolutely matters up to a point. Its easy to get lost in the rabbit hole of gear collecting, but up to a certain point it absolutely makes a difference for me.
most recently was when I upgraded my cartridge on my TT. The first album i listened to was the recent war on drugs album. i felt a little warmer in my belly and my loins.

My only anecdotal response would be: My friend Matt is a snob when it comes to music. For years he refused to listen to most modern music because it was imperfect. He preferred things like Steely Dan and Pink Floyd and even the Eagles because of their pursuit of excellence and reputation for perfection.
He finally got a pair of really great studio headphones. And he called me talking about all the imperfections he could finally hear in the music. It completely changed the way he listens to music and opened him up to bands I've been in love with for years.
That's enough for me.
