I'd agree. It occupies a rare space in that they've never attempted anything like it before, and it really works. Parachutes has the same thing going for it. Brave little tangents. And they're all the better for not becoming the norm.

Is this clip from Brooklyn? Something similar happened there too, during Sirens

I actually included the clip in one of my replies, so, yes, I was watching it. Regardless, it certainly seems like he saw him, but you never know, maybe he didn't. Either way, it sounded like shit, I would have been pissed, too. Dick move, yes, but justifiably pissed.knee tunes wrote:I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say that you are not watching the video contained in a post or 2 before yours.hlniv wrote:On one hand, if you give him the benefit of the doubt, he may not have known ricky was standing right there. I feel like I have been unduly grumbly about Pearl Jam these past couple weeks so I felt like chiming in to share that I have really been enjoying the Milwaukee version of this lately.

This is probably my third favorite song on the album. It's so good.

I just changed my vote from "1" to "2" stars. While you and I disagree about whether this belonged on a new record (understanding it was released on a solo record, but not with the full band treatment) I still say it's a waste of a track. That said, I do find myself humming it often.stip wrote:This is probably my third favorite song on the album. It's so good.

Sleeping By Myself was circulating from some early 2000 live shows before Uke songs, right?

I remember it being played by Ed at solo (either live or maybe there was even a demos ep?) around the time of Riot Act. Maybe my memory is way off? But yeah I feel like it's a Riot Act era tune. At least, that's my association.stip wrote:Sleeping By Myself was circulating from some early 2000 live shows before Uke songs, right?

I think this is a great song (especially on Ukulele Songs), but its inclusion on Lightning Bolt seems very "we didn't have enough songs so we dug this one up"; tonally it doesn't fit at all, imo

in itself I think the LB version is one of their better attempts at pop rock, I like it tooepilogue wrote:I like the LB version, but I totally agree.Ms Harmless wrote:I think this is a great song (especially on Ukulele Songs), but its inclusion on Lightning Bolt seems very "we didn't have enough songs so we dug this one up"; tonally it doesn't fit at all, imo

I think it would have been a fantastic b-side. Or bonus track. But I totally hear what you're saying about it's place on the record proper.
It'll be interesting if we ever get some songs released from those sessions that didn't make the cut. I'd like to know what missed the record in favor of SBM.

"Sleeping By Myself" was first played live in Australia 2011, a few months before the release of Ukulele Songs.
The Ukulele tunes that were being played around 2002 were:
- You're True
- Broken Heart
- Goodbye
- Satellite
- Longing To Belong
