i'm curious how people would've reacted if this was tyrion when he married sansa. neither one of them wanted to do it.

Same with last seasons perceived rape scene.

That one I understood the outrage. That was a character we are kinda supposed to have some affection for, despite prior bad acts. But beyond throwing Bran out a window he had mostly been portrayed as a good guy on the wrong side. Ramsey is and always had been a sadistic fuck. I don't think illustrating his brutality is particularly shocking.

There's more to the scene though. It should also affect how you feel about Theon and Sansa (in different ways obviously). But that wasn't just one more scene about how awful Ramsay is. That's only one color.

The Ramsey alone element isn't shocking for his part, but based on the final shot, the rape of Sansa Stark is about whether or not Theon Greyjoy is able to be redeemed. Will something so horrific be enough to overcome his fears? It had to be horrific, to illustrate that if he does not react, he is gone forever.

You're making their point for them, then. That rape should only be shock value, which I disagree with.

I'm still not comfortable calling last season's scene a rape scene and neither are the show runners nor the actors involved. But that aside, who cares whether or not the character is supposed to be likable or not. That shouldn't change or alter the atrocity of the act.

Rape is okay when I guy I'm supposed to hate does it. But when it's a guy I kinda like, hey now! That's over the line! I can't get on board with that.

I'm not talking about the "show" and the shock factor, I'm talking about the audiences reaction to it. The shock about Jamie in a rapey situation I got. Ramsey doing it should not have surprised anyone. Honestly, I don't know how anyone can be shocked by anything on this show at this point.

This is a show known for its brutality, and often times beloved for it. Depicting the atrocious acts are part of illustrating the world they've created. To ignore something that likely would have occurred in this universe seems ridiculous.

It just comes off as gimmicky to me now. Like they think the show is all about "shocking" deaths, sex and rapes. Maybe they are right. I'm not convinced this story is going anywhere, even in the books. Its starting to feel like a soap opera with no point, but it had the potential to be so much more.

It sucks because the character stuff and the writing in general is so great it doesn't have to rely on cheap stunts, but the showrunners don't seem to have enough faith in their own show to lay off. If they added something to the story, I'd be all for it, but it seems to detract more than help.
