When this first punter was taken, Rich Eisen did his usual exuberant "Punters are people too!" routine. However, when the Lions took another punter ten picks later, he was completely sedate and quite quiet. The reason? This punter was from Appalachian State.
RE: Patterson-All fair points. Watching his highlights his tackle-breaking ability is eerily reminiscent of Aaron Hernandez (he also carried the ball out of the backfield ala AH). I wouldn't have drafted him that high but I'd have been majorly tempted at the top of the 2nd. He's the definition of a stratosphere ceiling/basement floor player.
it wouldn't change the fact that he would have been a poor fit in NE (see matthews, clay)
Would you explain this for me? I don't know a lot about NE's scheme other than that it's changed a bit over the last few years. Is he just too light to play the Ninkovich/Chandler Jones role?

I'm happy with what the Broncos did this weekend. Sly Williams and Montee Ball should both compete right away, I like the long term potential for Q. Smith, and I think Tavarres King could be an effective #4 to at least start off. As for Dysert, eh, don't really care much, but it's nice to stow a QB on the practice squad for a year or two just in case.
Real quickly, here's my gut feeling on other teams that did well today:
Eagles (even without Reid, I seem to say this every year)
Vikings
Rams
Dolphins
Texans
Seahawks (especially considering where they were picking)
Cardinals
Packers
(and unfortunately) Chargers
Meanwhile, these are the teams that I think didn't do that well:
Cowboys
Browns
Panthers
(fortunately) Raiders
...and last but not least, the LOLJets.
Anyone else have some quick, irrationally early gut feelings on how teams did?

As far as the Bucs actual draft, i can't say Im super excited from the picks, i love the banks pick, Im curious and optimistic about the Glennon pick but i hadn't heard of any of the other players picked. Now if you include Revis as part of their draft then i think it was a great draft for the Bucs

I will trust the team of Schiano and Dom until i see them not be right, so Im hoping they had a reason for getting who they got in the 4th and 5th, they needed D line help and they got a good rotation DT and 2 good rotation DEs and all 3 are supposedly pretty raw with lots of potential upside. And as far as Glennon, it seems they could have waited for him, but 4 QBs went early in the 4th, so its possible he wouldn't have been there when they picked in the 4th, so if he is the one they wanted then Im glad they made sure they got him.

He's got great potential given his height arm length and athletic ability. The pick has quite a bit to do with potential as with Ansah.
My thing is, taking a guy that high still kind of learning how to play is dangerous to me.
When I see Jadaveon Clowney, I don't care about his combine numbers his abilities jump out. That's a top of the draft player to me, Jordan has loads of potential and is probably a perfect scheme fit in that defense, (lets hope his shoulder problems aren't chronic)
He could be an amazing pass rusher, to me I would have prefered to see more polish and proven ability that high in the draft.
Jordan is also highly versatile as he can cover extremely well. He's a potential "swiss army knife" type player.
I think ultra-best-case scenario he's a more coverage savvy Von Miller. Play him at OLB on early downs and let him pass rush on 3rd. Worst case scenario he's Aaron Curry/Aaron Maybin combined.
