I like this album because i think it was a good choice by Justin Vernon. After the huge success of Bon Iver, and the heavy handed nature of the music - This just feels like the right next move. Quick album of loose jams with friends and toss it out there....Could help bridge the gap for whatever comes next.

well, to be fair, many of these songs and this band pre-dates Bon Iver... and it wasn't recorded as quick as you might think. took a few sessions over the last 2-3 years.
I just wrote it in the albums of 2013 thread and now I'm writing it here. The new Volcano Choir album is lovely. I didn't hear the other one.

I think I actually prefer this to Bon Iver's second one; only on my first listen though.

Na it's not. Bits and pieces of it are great. But this one was pretty consistently beautiful.
