Re: NHL Thread
Honestly, I was just trying to explain to my wife how stressful and exciting it is watching a playoff game compared to the regular season. I remember so many Leafs playoff games like they were yesterday and I get butterflies in my stomach just thinking about the stress that comes with a close game, let alone a long overtime game. I can remember how great it felt to see Sundin and Thomas and Valk and Cross come up with huge goals in important games and watching Joseph and Belfour steal the show night after night, and how devastating it was when Roenick ended the series or when the Leafs came up completely empty in a must win against New Jersey.@SkitchP wrote:philpritchard wrote:You should probably be used to it by now.@SkitchP wrote:I am just happy the Wings made the playoffs. Been watching Hockey all night.
I heard Tool being played on the arena loudspeakers a few times. Just another reason why hockey kicks ass.

Re: NHL Thread
It's a new season and the game is totally different in the playoffs. Any slump to end a season is usually erased by the adrenalin of round 1.... especially when you're talking about a team like Boston who really are "built for the playoffs".numbers wrote:What difference does it make how much playoff experience a team has if they are playing like shit? The bruins have been awful for the last month, and I think that is much more relevant going into this series than their amount of playoff experience.
If I was a Bruins fan (god help me!), I wouldn't be too worried until a possible 2nd or 3rd round match-up with Washington or Pittsburgh.
As for the Leafs, Habs, Sens, Islanders.... I think just getting to the playoffs was the accomplishment, and anything past round 1 is overachieving.

Agreed. The habs were only out for one year, so I can only imagine what it's like for Leafs fans. Does everyone have the flags on their cars in TO? We're starting to see alot of them in Montreal. We can still hope for a 2nd round Habs-Leafs matchup.philpritchard wrote:Honestly, I was just trying to explain to my wife how stressful and exciting it is watching a playoff game compared to the regular season. It's too bad the Flames and Oilers aren't competitive lately, I'd love to see a battle another Battle of Alberta.

I don't know that I've seen any car flags here, but I'm in Northern Ontario. It's still primarily Leafs fans here, although there are a lot of Habs fans because there's a decent French-Canadian population in the area.southp wrote:Agreed. Well that didn't go well. Toronto had some early jump and then just collapsed. I think if JVR scores on that shorthanded crossbar it really could have changed the way the rest of the game went. Instead, Boston scored and the Leafs just looked deflated after that.

Re: NHL Thread
Boston looked really, really good. I just heard a Toronto radio talk show guy say something like "the Leafs completely turtled and weren't willing to match Boston's intensity and physical play." I couldn't disagree more with that... I thought the Leafs showed some drive and determination and were more than willing to play a physical game. They just made way too many stupid mistakes and Boston did a great job of exploiting their weaknesses.cutuphalfdead wrote:Seriously. So does Hamilton get into Game 2 when Ference gets suspended, or does the NHL decide to turn a blind-eye to type of blatant headshots they've been trying to eliminate from the game because it's the playoffs? I'm leaning towards the latter.

Or, you know, you could watch the replay. He was reaching for the puck... there wasn't any attempt to duck it. Ference lead with the elbow to the face and there was nothing accidental about it. In the regular season he would get at least a couple of games for that.elliseamos wrote:definitley door #2, grabovski (sp?) ducked into it.
