It was my first time seeing him & I was really impressed. He's a got a very good back up band. I could nitpick the setlist but with such a deep catalog I knew there would be songs I wanted to hear but would not. Just a lot of fun from start to finish.

Saw Martin Sexton last Saturday night. It was the eighth time I've seen him. That guy just continues to destroy me. Just a phenomenal talent. Blew me away. Again.

Re: Concerts you've been to recently
It was pretty great. I got nervous at first because they played King of Carrot Flowers parts 1 and 2 very early on, and man did they fly through the songs, played them much faster than on the record. The other issue (I'm guessing it was intentional) is that the vocals were pretty low in the mix. When the drums were really going they were every bit as loud, if not louder, than the vocals.BigRedLedbetter wrote:4/5 wrote:Saw Neutral Milk Hotel last night.

But it ended up going really well. Oh Comely was obviously a highlight. After the encore they played Ghost/Untitled/Two Headed Boy Pt 2, which was all I was really hoping for, so I have no complaints. Actually during THB2 an usher told me to sit down. I was in the back row of the entire theater. So, yeah, that was annoying.
The bassist playing the saw blades was really something to see. How whatever he was doing made those sounds...I just don't know.

She said there were complaints. I started to protest, but I had been waiting for that song all night so I thought better of it, but yeah that was absurd. The entire lower level was standing...LoathedVermin72 wrote:who the fuck tells people to sit down at a concert?

Saw Jenny Lewis and Ryan Adams in Charlottesville and Charleston this week. Pretty great shows. Jenny's voice is really good live and she performs several Rilo songs for good measure. RA joked around a lot at the Charlottesville show and was clearly in a good mood. He was a little more reserved at the Charleston show (I think it had to do with his dad being in the audience) but the setlist and intensity of the performances more than made up for it as he played To Be Young (Is To Be Sad, Is To Be High) and Shakedown on 9th Street for the first time with a full band since 2009 and really jammed out a few songs.

I saw Waxahatchee yesterday.
It was in a really small venue. (200-300 people I guess) They were great. A lot more rocking and loud than on the record. Katie started the set with 3 solo songs and then the band came out for the rest of the set until the encore where she played 2 songs alone again.
While I was buying merch Katie stood next to me and she signed my Ivy Tripp record.
She's great.

I saw Widespread Panic in DC about a month ago. It was at the Warner Theater, and the place turned into one huge joint. I couldn't believe that such a classy place allowed (didn't give a shit) that everyone was toking up. I of course participated in the hedonistic activity and had quite a good time. I'm not a huge Widespread fan, but in the state of mind I was in, I did enjoy the jams man.

Re: Concerts you've been to recently
I saw Mangum live solo and then a year or two later saw the reunited NMH. Mangum solo, to me, was much better than the full band effort. I absolutely love his vocals and how he plays an acoustic guitar. It was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. With the band it was still quite good but his vocals were much more buried, and there was so much more going on.4/5 wrote:It was pretty great. Re: Concerts you've been to recently
Seeing Ryan Adams with Houndmouth tonight. Saw Spoon last week (was supposed to see Decemberists same night but we left during an hour plus lightning/rain delay.
Saw Father John Misty in April. Holy fuck, his stage presence has grown tenfold since we saw him open for Cat Power.
And we saw the Replacements with Strat a week or two later...and they were incredible.
So it's been a good concert season thus far this year.

Saw Father John Misty and Alabama Shakes. Father John Misty was insane and I love him. Hadn't heard anything by him before. He was getting pissed at the crowd throughout the show, which honestly made the show even better.
Alabama Shakes were awesome. New songs sounded great live.

Re: Concerts you've been to recently
Bought a ticket and went. I had seen Everclear play a few festival sets and they were a fun but generic 90s rock band. I figured it was worth the $15 ticket, dinner and gas money.Biff Pocoroba wrote:Anybody seen Art Alexakis' solo set? He's playing a couple hours away Friday night
Alexakis played a small theater that was less than half full. I'm guessing 200-250 people total. He came out and played two acoustic sets. The first one was from a setlist of about 10 songs and the second was audience requests, which he usually only played a couple verses instead of the full song. He played the songs he had to, Wonderfull, Father of Mine & I Will Buy You a New Life in the first set and closing with Everything to Everyone (which was completely botched towards the end) and Santa Monica. Despite the light turnout it was a fun show and he seemed to be enjoying himself too. After he finished he came down to audience to take pictures and sign autographs and hang out for a while. I thought that was a cool touch & something he didn't have to do.
Speaking of Father of Mine, there's a lot of bitter father songs from the 90s and that's one of the bitterest.
