I mean it can't be any dumber than a movie about Boba Fett and Han Solo having a rivalry.

A Ewan McGregor Obi-Wan movie set between 3 and 4 is probably the only flash back type movie I'd be in to. I don't really have much interest in <young star wars character> adventures or origins. They already ruined Darth Vader.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015)
There was book a few years back, about 200 pages, I can't remember who wrote, but it was actually written as a teen book that details what Obi-Wan did in between those stages. From wehat I remember they go briefly into Vader hunting down the remaining Jedi, how is has become accustomed to his armor and mostly focused on Obi-Wan. He mostly stuck to cantina's and hid. Even when he went to check on luck. Luke's Uncle would yell for him to never come back.

Ewan was so wasted as Obi-Wan in the Prequels. As much as I hate the idea of going backwards or whatever, I'd welcome a new trilogy with him as Ben K. Srsly.

I agree with that. Even under George's soul-sucking direction, he still refused to go lifeless. With decent writing, he would probably even have been lauded.durdencommatyler wrote:Ewan was so wasted as Obi-Wan in the Prequels.
But one of the things that makes Obi-Wan engaging in the original series to me is that he was this person of almost limitless potential, who had to sacrifice most of that potential by hiding out on a desert planet because he failed to save his friend. Whatever good he could have done the universe is lost...no heroic adventures, no great victories. No lives saved. Just...hiding. Getting old. It's an important part of the starting point of that movie...the reason having a new hope is important is because there is no hope. And then Obi-Wan gets the chance to do right again, by committing a sacrifice that can ignite that hope.
The extent that you rewrite it as "This dude's been just kicking the holy shit out of evil and adventuring it up in the desert all these years" is the extent to which he starts to become less interesting of a character, to me.
Or, to put it another way, for the love of all things stop writing about the same nine people over and over again.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015)
Imagine if it had been Obi-Wan that fell in love with Padme instead of Anakin, and that love caused some failure that allowed Anakin to be maimed, and revenge for that failure is what caused Darth Vader to hate and wipe out all the Jedi. Vader would have been much more badass, instead of the pussy-whipped little peon that Lucas turned him into. Then everything Obi-Wan did after episode 3 became guilt driven.durdencommatyler wrote:Well said. I actually... I actually can't argue with any of that.McParadigm wrote:I agree with that. It still doesn't explain why Anakin Skywalker couldn't find a Skywalker living with his half-brother on a planet he knew his whole life, but that problem was unsolvable the minute Darth Vader told Luke he was his father.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

I'd rather a movie with new characters in which the storyline deals with repercussions from major characters like Solo, Obi-Wan, and Boba Fett. I am worried they're going to kill a lot of intrigue/interest if they do too much background on these characters.

Not really--it became unsolvable when he decided to have Anikan grow up on the same planet. If Anikan was from a core world, or a planet on the other side of the galaxy, or even a far-flung rim planet, this isn't an issue.b wrote:

It's not like Vader knew he had a kid. I've never understood why this was an issue.

I guess you're right, but it just bugs me because it's unnecessary retconning. When you throw something in in the last five minutes of the movie--"She died, no kids!" / "Have these droids' memories erased"--it just reeks of sloppy story-telling.@SkitchP wrote:It's not like Vader knew he had a kid. Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015)
I semi agree about the droid part, but I think from the moment it was revealed that Luke was his son, it had to be a situation where he had no knowledge having a kid.Simple Torture wrote:I guess you're right, but it just bugs me because it's unnecessary retconning. If he knew, and by extension the emperor knew, there wouldn't be a star wars, cause they woulda hunted that kid down immediately.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015)
I've heard some apologists claim that the Emperor not only was the force behind Padme's death due to very minor injuries (remember, he claims to be able to control life and death), but also that he clouded Vader's ability to sense Padme, Luke, and/or Leia in order to control him. In that case, the Emperor would have just been too arrogant to think that those kids would be a problem for him later.Simple Torture wrote:I guess you're right, but it just bugs me because it's unnecessary retconning. It's not a bad explanation, but I am betting George Lucas didn't have that idea in his head when he shot that scene.
