stip has a profession of merit, has probably inspired people, and has perhaps even given them agency to use that inspiration. So to that end, he seems to be neck-and-neck with any slacker rockstar. But then you factor in that he did it for much longer, and all while sticking around to raise his wife's boyfriend's children, and he's clearly accomplished more.

I guess I was going for "made more of an impact", but that doesn't really refute the slacker charge. Oh well, whatever, nevermind.McParadigm wrote:I can't agree with this at all.theplatypus wrote:He accomplished more in only 27 years than most of us will ever do with our lives.

Anybody with a robust heroin habit and many millions of moneys who doesn't just lay around the house all day being a mess is probably not a slacker.

I think Buzz is a great countervoice to the Cobain myth. He has no vested interest in the story, where others do. Others are socially, historically, and financially reliant on it. What does Buzz care? Other than the idea of breaking down those walls and exposing people for who they are and were. He is outside of the inside, but still looking inside nonetheless. In some ways, one might consider him one of the few (if not only) true voices.durdencommatyler wrote:I don't know why I chose to believe him. But what he's saying feels honest to me. And it taps back into what I was trying to say earlier in the thread about the documentary's inability to dig deeper.Birds in Hell wrote:Buzz Osborne talks Montage of Heck: http://thetalkhouse.com/music/talks/buz ... ins-talks/
Though, I do think Montage was more interested in showing us Kurt via what he presented (the diaries. the home recordings, ect) than it is interested in truth. This isn't a documentary in that sense. And we can argue whether that's a problem or not, but I don't think that was the overall point.
Anyway, having never met Kurt or Buzz, I have to say what Buzz is saying rings true for some reason. It certainly mirrors thoughts and feelings I had while watching Montage.
There are many truths about Cobain out there, but they don't make as fun of a story. It's like hearing down the chain that you're great-grandad was an amazing war hero who did all of these things, but in actuality, he was in fact in the war, but just sorta served like everyone else.

I really love the music and all but the music isnt really what has had the lasting influence. The myth of cobain is what has instead been cultivated over the years, which mainly just gets eaten up by emo teenage girls who shop at hot topic.

Finally finished the movie. Well, it was ok, some disturbing footage and cool music moments. Nothing new on cobain though...man, what a junkie.

I didn't know what to think about that ... I just felt it needed to be shared.
