I started reading The Martian because of all the buzz around the film version recently. It's pretty pulpy, and I'd like to stop, but now I want to know how it ends.

Finished up Jane Eyre, which I really liked. What an incredibly progressive book for the time.

Now I'm onto Orlando by Virginia Woolf.

Never read any of her stuff before, so I pretty stoked about it. So far, I really dig it.

Reading The Martian before I see the film. It's a super fun read and all the science stuff is easily off set by the main character being really likeable. Think it's by Andy Weir?

Recommend it.

Euphoria by Lily King. I'm only a third of the way through, but I fucking LOVE this thing. Great. Great, great, great so far.

Coup de Foudre by Ken Kalfus on my own. At night, I've been reading Ulysses to my unborn child. Fun times!

It's totally doable, don't be intimidated or nothing. After you're through chapter 3, you'll be totally used to the narrative style.

:nice:

It's been on my list for over a decade. I'm got Euphoria and an Atwood to get at first, but I think I'm going to do it after that.

Chapter 4 of Ulysses is definitely my favorite chapter. It's got a tremendous rhythm (I'd never read it out loud before, but it just rolls off your tongue), it tells you all you need to know about a central character in just like 10 pages, and it's incredibly sad and intimately+immediately relatable like nothing else I've ever read. Just awesome.

Some of my other favorite chapters:

Moby-Dick Chapter 36 - "The Quarter-Deck"
Moby-Dick Chapter 132 - "The Symphony"
"The Rise and Fall of Videophony" in Infinite Jest
That one chapter in The Savage Detectives where the narration's point-of-view gets all fucked up

I thought Gone Girl, though entertaining enough and well paced, was pretty terribly written. Do you like this one more, less or the same?
