It's a hopeless situation
and I'm starting to believe
that this hopeless situation
is what I'm trying to achieve

That's kinda weak

To myself I surrender to the one I'll never please.

I agree it looks icky on paper but I really like the weary, resigned feel of this verse in the song. There's enough breathing space between words, enough care in Ed's diction, to save it from feeling like the inane poetry that it looks like written out.

I like them too, dct -- a lot, actually.

I think they're a great example of the occasional mutual exclusivity of song lyrics and poetry.

A filthy poem, composed exclusively of non-Eddie Vedder-penned Pearl Jam lyrics:

I want for to lay down
Under a star-lined ceiling
When the window shades are drawn
A solemn man
Obeys, listens, kisses, loves
Gets carried away
Politely drags you down, down, down
Love is a tower
Shoots straight down my sciatic nerve
How warm are his eyes
A token of my openness
Putting in and putting in
Power high, power low
Keep on moving in both directions
Swear if you must
Synapses flashing

And with that, the world closed the book on the internet forever. For, Kevin Davis had won.
