Slingbox

Post by Bammer »

Does anyone here use it? Good/bad/indifferent?

I want to set up an outdoor screen in my back yard with a projector, but don't want to put another Comcast box outside. I am thinking slingbox is the answer - turn the game or movie on inside the house, and watch outside. Would I have to get the feed to outside via my phone or tablet? Or can I attach some thing to the projector that "pulls" the feed wirelessly from inside the house?

Other ideas for solutions?

I'd like to only worry about bringing the projector outside and plugging it in to power, and as little other outside equipment as possible.

if you're willing to plug in a slingbox outdoors why not just use the cable box? it seems silly to access your cable via IP when you're still on your property.

Disconnecting it would be a pain. Plus I don't like to ever turn it off so the DVR doesn't miss anything that's scheduled. Plus I'd have to run a new cable jack to the back of the house.

Go to Comcast and get an additional cablebox you don't have to constantly move, set it up outside in some sort of waterproof box. Run a long coaxial cable from your basement to the backyard somehow.

That was my first idea which I may still go with but I really don't want to pony up $$$ for the monthly on another Comcast box. Especially when I can only use it in dry weather.
